...5 day pouch test....
And here's my 2 cents on the 5 day pouch test..... FA-GET-ABOUT-IT!!!!! I agree with everyone else.....
It's just the cabbage soup diet in disguise for WLS people.
Just go back to basics.....protein first...weigh and measure...don't drink with meals....get on a walking program.
And give that baby of yours a BIG snuggle for me....

You probably already know how passionate Kelly is about people taking the right vitamnins. Well, I am passionate about people getting RID of the old dieting mentality. The 5DPT is just a fad diet for RNYers and is not psychologically healthy. Below is a reply I amde to someone esle about it a while back:
"First of all, the whole idea of "testing" your pouch is silly. The problem is not the pouch -- yes, it still works! -- the problem is what you (and I... and everyone else...) put IN the pouch.
Furthermore... As a Licensed Professional Counselor, this is one of my "soapbox" items... so you'll have to keep in mind that I have VERY strong personal (and professional) feelings about this one.
{stepping up on soapbox and clearing throat...}
I despise things like Medifast and the 5 Day Pouch Test for people who have already had WLS. You already have one of the most powerful weight loss tools that exists. You just need to make full use of it.
First of all, those things are both nothing more than crash diets (and I consider the 5DPT a "fad" diet for WLSers). They put stress on your body and do not work in the long run. If fad diets or liquid diets DID work long term, none of us would have needed WLS in the first place!
Second, my bigger concern is that what these things do is reinforce the old (failed... repeatedly) "diet-deprivation-regain" cycle that kept most of us obese for years. Going back to basics, on the other hand (protein FIRST ALWAYS, lots of water except right after meals, and limiting simple carbs), will not only STILL get the weight off (just not nearly as fast as when you first had surgery, of course), but it will reinforce the HEALTHY eating program that will help you keep the weight off long term (and make the fad/liquid diest unnecessary).
Some people claim that they only use the 5DPT to "feel" their pouch restriction again. Will i do that? Yes, for most people, it apparently does. Here's a little "secret", though... you can accomplish the same thing by just eating somewhat smaller portions of a normal, nutritious, balanced diet!! (Go back to measuring your food portions and limit yourself to 4 ounces of food per meal again. You will find the same thing will happen... you will be able to feel how small your pouch is (even though it is likely much bigger than when you were a coupld of months post-op.)
Ultimately, everyone has to choose. You can choose to go back to the past "diet-deprivation-regain" failure mode or you can choose the "back-to-basics"plan that has been proven to be successful.
{Ok, stepping of sopabox now.}"

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained
You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I'm about where you are- I have about 12-13 lb left to lose until I'll be at 122 which is a weight I'm happy with (I'm 5'5). I was very underweight when I got pregnant and I gained 36 lbs. I just had my son 11/26 and most of the weight is gone, but it's going to be interesting losing this last little bit. I'm even ok if I don't lose it all, but 10 lbs and a lot of toning would make me happy.
I feel your pain!
I feel your pain!

You have gotten excellent advice.
I think the mainstream media does post partum women a grave disservice. They show celebrity women losing the weight in record time. There is this unrealistic expectation that you will pop back into your prebaby body in weeks.
I hope you enjoy your new baby. What a joyous time this is. It's precious and it goes by so quickly.
You don't need a fad diet. You will lose the weight. It will happen.
Kisses to the new boy.

No disrespect but I think you said someting important in your first sentence:
I've done it A COUPLE TIMES.
So, in my mind, it is no more or less effective than simply returning to the food eating habits we were taught. Sometimes you backslide and then you move forward.
But, and again no disrespect intended, I'm wondering: do you realize you just advised a post-partum woman to text you for tips on a diet plan that may be detrimental to her recovery from pregnancy?

The body needs a plethora of nutrients to recover from pregnancy. After my 2nd pregnancy when I was morbidly obese, my doctor forbade me from going on any kind of restrictive diet (restrictive meaning favoring one group of nutrients over another) for a few months. The body needs a plethora of nutrients to recover, some of which can only be found in carbohydrates and some can only be found in grains. I checked with my NUT, who also serves women after pregnancy and she agreed. I asked this before I posted my original post.
But besides that, calm yourself, please! I didn't call you a name. I didn't say you were a bad person. I did however point out that my original point that I made in an earlier post rings true. The test is not any better or worse than just getting back with a regular, healthy, balanced eating plan as evidenced by the fact that most people who promote it have done it more than once. I don't see what's disrespectful about that statement, but I'll leave that to you. You were offended by it, those are your feelings, you have a right to them.
I didn't know you knew her outside the board. But again, that's not great advice to give a person who has so recently given birth, so I'd even say the precedent is set higher for giving responsible advice. I'd check about nutrition after pregnancy if I were you. There's more to it than you seem to be aware of.
Anyway, I would say sorry you got offended, but you own your feelings not me. I'm perfectly fine and don't have any beef with you.
Good day.
