...5 day pouch test....

So I have a total of 20 pounds that I want to lose to be completely happy. I gained about 15lbs during my pregnancy. I hit my goal weight right before I got pregnant and I want to get there again minus 5 more pounds.

I heard that the 5 day pouch test works wonders in getting you back on track. Has anybody done this and had success in getting back on track? Thanks peeps!

Im almost 4 years out and i've done the 5-day a couple times......I was successful.  You have to really stick to it....make sure you plan out your meals in advance so you are not tempted or go off course.

The whole point is to get your pouch feeling the way it did early on,

You will lost weight and also I lost some of the cravings I had picked up by way of going off track.

Good luck to you.

Ok, sorry to get existential on you but if I didn't...well, I would be me?

Your wording concerns me a little. So until you lose that 20 lbs. you can't be completely happy? You just had a baby! Your body is recovering! Are you nursing him? That will probably take care of about 5 of those pounds already (it is a fact that nursing women lose a portion of their baby weight faster than non-nursing women).

As far as the 5-day pouch test...I am not a big fan. You already know what you should be eating and how much. How is drinking a bunch of protein shakes and doing soft foods (and being miserable and hungry in the process) going to help. And if you ARE nursing the baby I would say a resounding HELL NO! He needs carbs so you need carbs.

So my advice:

1. Call your NUT. He/she can help you come up with a plan to accommodate your body's post-baby needs. I don't think it's necessarily appropriate to be on a restrictive diet in the weeks after giving birth anyways.
2. Track your intake. Drink your fluids.
3. EXERCISE!!!!

If you choose to go the 5DPT route, I respect that but honestly, it isn't a long-term solution. That's why you tend to hear folks say they've done it more than once.

Okay yeah I worded that wrong! I have lost 120 pounds so I am very happy! I am just tired of ALWAYS having to lose weight! I was done for about a week when I got preg! Not complaining though cuz I have tried extra hard to get my son here! And your right, I need to track my intake cuz Lord knows I can be eating better and dont even ask about my water intake! **yikes**

I'm just glad I am getting it under control before I gain back 60lbs!

Oh and I tried to breastfeed but I just dont produce much (which sucks but oh well)... Thanks for the rebuke!!!  :)

That happened with my kids. It wasn't that I didn't produce much...neither gained much weight off my milk. I had to supplement both but my ped said they still benefitted from breast milk so I also nursed. Both my daughters are now horrified at this thought, especially since my oldest now has boobs, she just can't even imagine!

I think the fact that you only have 20 lbs is a triumph. You go girl! Many women have gained a lot more after WLS and pregnancy.

Yep...I'd take the holistic approach. Your body needs nutrients. My OB told me to fully and properly recover from pregnancy the body needs a year of good nutrition. Babies suck up your nutrients!!!

Yep Nik that was me. My Son wasn't gaining enough weight off breastmilk and was screaming he was so frustrated and hungry, so I gave him formula and pumped what breast milk I could, and that worked for about the first month. Now it's pretty much dried up so he's on formula full time :( *sigh* I really did try and I'm bummed it didn't work, but he's MUCH happier now.

First of all - congratulations!

No self respecting midwife or OB/GYN would suggest dieting in such a manner to a woman only 3+ weeks post partum!!!! Your body takes a MINIMUM of 6-8 weeks and more like 12 weeks to get back to anywhere near normal (I am a midwife!)

It took you 9 months to put on that 15lb - if you just remain on our lifestyle diet - you know, the one we ALL signed up for when we got our digestive system altered , (protein first, complex carbs only etc) that 15lb will drop off in a couple of months max ...

We gain weight while we're pregnant in anticipation of nurturing and feeding our baby - that's why we lose weight when breastfeeding.

You have a perfectly good pouch that helped you lose over 100lbs - it's gonna help you lose that pesky 20lbs in no time and in a healthy way ... Fad diets (and that's all this stupid pouch test thing is) have no place in a new mummy's (or any self respecting RNY'ers!) life
