Do you use vinegar and water?  I clean a lot of stuff with vinegar.  That and baking soda.

Why won't your cleaning lady use whatever you would like her to use?  You pay for her services, right?

I use 2 cups of filtered water, 1/4 of vinegar, and 1/2 tsp of regular Ajax Lemon scented dish-washing liquid (the .99 cent kind, not the fancy ones with moisturizers and other stuff).

LOL, yes I pay for her services Kelly.  And of course as a service provider she should do as I say, or I should find someone else.  But for me it's more complicated than that.  She's like a part of my family and has been cleaning our house, serving/cleaning at our parties, and other assorted things for a little over 10 years. Before that, she spent about 10 years cleaning my mother-in-laws house. Not that I wouldn't fire her if warranted, but the glass cleaner isn't important enough.

She's funny.  Her take on the Windex thing is that I'm just going through a phase and will one day be kneeling at the Windex alter again like she does. Theoretically, I could force her to follow my instructions, but some battles just aren't worth fighting.  She's cheap, reliable, and a good person, and if the price I pay is that I have to clean the glass after she leaves, I'm good with that arrangement.  She knows I do it and thinks I'm nuts, and I know she's part of some Windex worshiping cult.  :)

Ok so handy thing for us WLS folk in particular:

Clothes...here's the scenario:

Nikki is shrinking fast. She buys all her clothes from Goodwill. But as a savvy shopper she goes on half price day and snags great deals. Nikki buys a skirt from Goodwill on half-price day for $2.

Nikki shrinks out of the skirt so she donates it BACK to Goodwill, making sure to take a receipt when she does.

When Nikki files her taxes, Uncle Sam gives Nikki $4 deduction for said skirt, meaning Nikki earned $2 on the skirt.

:) Now...multiply that by your ENTIRE wardrobe.

...I know what you're thinking. Why the HELL would I buy new clothes then???

With my other deductions I ended up getting that extra money back in my refund which was very nice.

I have : a garden where I grow vegetables for myself and my parents (and my "2nd" parents); fruit trees; chickens (for eggs - did the meat chickens once and probably won't again if I have a choice). I use rab*****icken / horse manure for compost vs buying fertilzer etc. I feed my chickens kitchen scraps (what they don't get goes to the compost pile).
I am HOPING to get a couple of dairy goats in the spring so I can do my own milk and cheese.
I run my heater where it is just warm enough that I am comfortable with a sweatshirt (I sleep under a sleeping bag ).
I use the gym at my work vs paying for a membership (of course, my work gym is state of the art so it is only smart)

Now that I have lost enough weight to do so, I ride my motorcycle when possible (over 30mpg vs my full sized truck at about 12 mpg). Of course it is too cold right now!

I would have chickens and a couple goats if I could.  But I live in a mobile home park on a tiny lot.  I'm thinking the owners would not like it if I moved in goats and chickens.  Actually, it's against the city ordinance here.  You have to have a certain amount of land and I don't in order to keep farm animals.

With the hassle I am going through to get raw milk and free range eggs locally, it would be way easier to just have my own goats and chickens.  And I could sell extra eggs if I had extra.  I guess I couldn't sell extra milk because the USDA is out to bust people selling illegal milk these days and I can't really afford to get arrested and do some jail time over milk.  But I'd love a couple goats.

It is ridiculous to me that "they" want to regulate what individuals choose to eat.  I can see regulations for mass market  but really?   Armed officers raiding an Amish farm over... milk?

I sell chicken eggs from time to time... but I always mark the cartons "For Pet Consumption Only" and then if the person eats them it is on them.

A friend of mine lives in an upscale neighborhood in town. She has a privacy fence around her postage stamp backyard and has 6 hens in a cute pen.  LOL

In Ohio, it's legal to sell eggs.  But illegal to sell raw milk, even for pet consumption. It's also illegal to buy raw milk in another state and then bring it over the state line into Ohio.

The only way around it is herd shares.  Basically you pay a fee to buy in, and then you own a part of a cow.  Like, $60 bought me 1/20 of a cow.  Then I pay $22 a month for its board and care.  It is legal to drink raw milk from a cow that you own, so I get a gallon of milk a week and it's legal that way.

It's so obviously about the money for the dairy industry.  The USDA is pretty much working for the factory "farm" owners now.

I starting making my own laundry detergent a few months ago and that has saved me lots of money.

I save most leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer - depending on when I will use them - and redo them - or just eat later.

I cook a lot of dried beans.

I grow a garden every year.

I shop at yard sales and thrift stores.
