chronic pain

There are lots of stretches on the web for the piriformis muscle and IT band.  I was shocked to hear how common it was.

Thanks so much for posting this! After reading about it I really think it could be half my back pain problem.

I can't believe I almost went under the knife when it was this pesky little muscle that no one EVER told me about.  It may not be anyone else's problem, but if it helps one person...

Good Luck!

I have chronic daily migraines. The scariest thing about the RnY for me is no more NSAIDs. Tylenol is useless.  Excedrin will actually take the edge off some migraines.  My insurance doesn't allow me enough Imitrex to get through the month, and I don't want to get started on Percocet. I need to be able to function at some level.

Some days I sleep all day, some days are somewhat functional, and some days are pretty good.  I never know from day today (or from hour to hour sometimes) how it's going to be.  Exercise is really difficult.

Have you considered VSG so you could still take Excedrin?

My doc strongly recommended the RnY for me.  I've done some reading on the VSG, and it looks like the only advantage in my case is the NSAIDs so I think I'll stick with what I'm on track for.  I meet with him tomorrow and I'll run it by him, though.

have you tried fioricet? it's a pain med for migraines and does wonders for me. the only problem is the caffeine keeps me up if i take it at night which is usually when i need it. diluadid doesn't help but at least lets me sleep. the neurologist has me on topamax daily, but it doesn't really make much of a difference to me so i'll probably stop it when my bottle runs out

Fioricet hasn't worked for me in the past, but I'm willing to give it another shot. I'm going to my neuro today to talk about options.

Dilaudid makes me so nauseated I'd rather be in pain.  Percocet is the only narcotic that doesn't nauseate me, and it's the same deal as the dilaudid with you: it doesn't touch the pain, but it totally knocks me out.

Topomax doesn't help. Neither does Depakote.

I have an Occipital Nerve Stimulator (electrical leads implanted in my skull) and I had an experimental PFO closure for the migraines.  I still have a migraine nearly every day.

What about a daily blood pressure med?  My neuro put me on Verapamil (a calcium channel blocker) for my migraines and it worked (along with occasional trigger point injections.)  You might have your pharmacist play with the numbers on your Imitrex rx too.  I had one tech who was diligent and figured out how to get me more at one time (although I take the Imitrex injectible.)

It's odd though, Tylenol has never worked for me either, but since my RNY it has worked fine.

I've been on Verapamil and Propanolol for blood pressure.  I just saw my neuro today, and she's actually taking me off the Propanolol and lowering the dosage of the Verapamil after surgery (and changing it to a non-extended release version.)  She also took me off several of my other meds.

She did give me Fioricet for pain.  And switched me from Imitrex pills to Maxalt melt-in-the-mouth things, which will be easier after surgery.  (I only get 8 injections a month.)
