Stall Roll Call: Let's air it out...

By nature we get a lot of stall posts. That's just the way it is with weight loss. What worries me is that folks psych themselves out, thinking they are failing when stalls are natural and normal and a (frustrating) part of this whole process.

So let's do a stall roll call. If you are currently stalled, please provide:

1. How far out you are.
2. How long you've been stalled (stuck at same weight or within a 1-2 lb. fluctuation)
3. Are you getting in your required daily protein?
4. Are you drinking your water?
5. Are you taking your vitamins?
6. Are you getting physical activity of any kind?

This is not to admonish anyone. I think once folks start answering you'll see stalls happen to EVERYONE. They happen to exercise demons, to people who never exercise, to perfectly compliant eaters and more relaxed eaters. They happen to everyone.

So if you're stalling, check-in. Let's commiserate together. (Well not me...I'm in maintenance...but perfectly willing to commiserate to keep up solidarity).

Check-in!

I figure, why not answer?

1. Next Sunday I'll be four years out.

2. I've been the same weight for two years, despite both increases and decreases in exercise, caloric intake, etc. I'm ok with that now but it bugged the hell out of me for a while.

3. I average about 120g of protein a day.

4. Ennnhhh...I could be better about this.

5. YES! Finally! Thank you Building Blocks Vitamins for getting me on the right track!

6. Mostly Zumba. Need to go back to strength training. I have been slacking.

1.  I will be 8 months out in 3 days.
2.  I was stuck last month for 2 weeks and it felt like a month until I actually looked at my tracker and saw that it was two weeks.
3.  Almost always get all my protein in.  I do drink at least one protein shake daily and make sure I do protein first at every meal.  I usually drink my protein shake right after working out.
4.  I push myself to drink a good amount of regular water first thing in the morning, to jumpstart my intake for the rest of the day.
5.  I take my vitamins religiously.  That said, my iron ran low on my last labs so I have doubled my dose and will ask to be retested soon.
6.  I'm about 1/2 way to a 5k.  I run 4-5 times a week, work out with machines, and use a personal trainer once a week for the last 6 weeks.

That said, it is so hard when we get stuck for any length of time becsuse NO MATTER what you read here and how many times you read it, the mind still goes back to, "I'm failing, this is not working for me, I've finished losing, I'm going to gain it back."  The one saving grace seems to be, everytime I have stalled, during that stall is when people seem to really notice my weight loss.  I'm a counselor and Reality Therapist, and I still have to fight that negative self-talk, sometimes even on days when the scale is moving downward.  This is the biggest battle for me, to trust in my tool and the surgery and stop trying to negate results in my head.

The holidays have been a challenge. I found out I do not dump! I am glad but was surprized. However when carbs came calling in the form of my own baking, I realized that I need to edit a lot of my baking down to a minimum. My two daughters are in their 20's and can take over making their holiday favorites. I am glad for school to begin again and get in a healthier routine. Karen

1. I am 6 1/2 months out
2. I've been at the same weight 3 weeks
3. I get at least 80 grams of protein a day
4. I pump as much fluids into me as I can. Usually 64-88 ounces
5. Of course I take my vitamins daily!
6. I work out 4-5 times a week (cardio, strength training, yoga, and walking).

I'm not really frustrated (yet). I went into this journey with the attitude there are things I CAN control and things I CAN'T. I can control what I eat, how much I work out, and what attitude I choose. What I CAN'T control is how much and how fast I will lose the weight. If I do all I can to control what I can, then I'm successful and the weight loss will take care of itself. Come on, life's a trip, enjoy the ride!

I love your attitude. May I bottle it?

But of course~ Make sure to put it in one of those cute little chi-chi bejewelled and tasseled atomizer bottles! That way, when we do go to the "dark side" (and I know we all do on occasion), we can whip out that pretty little bottle and spritz (douse) ourselves with a better attitude energizing spray!

 1. How far out you are. 4 months
2. How long you've been stalled:  a couple of times at 2 weeks each.  Right now is the 2nd time.
3. Are you getting in your required daily protein? I can eat all meat and dairy so I'm not really counting but I do add protein to milk, soups, tea and everything that I can.
4. Are you drinking your water? probably 48 oz of water and additional in milk.
5. Are you taking your vitamins?  religiously
6. Are you getting physical activity of any kind? 4 to 5 days at the gym for an hour each day.  I do the bikes for 15 to 30 min each day and weight equipment the rest of the time.  I am working hard to get my leg strength back and found a good machine for stomach muscles.  I always dread going to the gym but once there I get enthused to build muscles.
