I didn't realize the chewables had iron now.  I think that is a relatively new thing.  I'm pretty sure they did not have iron back when I used them right after my surgery.

I figured out the hard way that I really did need iron. I changed from the chewable to the capsules and very soon I was tired all the time. It took two weeks to get back to normal with a separate iron supplement.

You're very lucky it only took two weeks to get back to normal!

Thanks for the info Kelly, because my hospital recommended Flinstones, which I have been taking but I plan to get Centrum or something after these run out.  Hope I am not missing out on too many minerals and vitamins.  I do take a Prenatal Vitamin so hopefully that filled the gap.

I wish I knew why they keep recommending Flintstones.

But with the prenatal, you're probably getting what you need.  But if you do two Centrum a day, that can replace both the Flintstones and the prenatal.

The NUTs and docs need to be educated on what's available in the vitamin world. For the longest time Flinstones have been the only popular/name brand vitamin on the market.  Bring your docs and providers pamphlets and flyers on Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate vitamins. Show them what's really out there when you find something new.

You're right about that.  I don't understand why dieticians, especially, don't make it a point to see what's out there, but I guess many of them don't.  My dietician and surgeon had never heard of Upcal D or ENS.

Thanks for the great information!  I am 12 days post op, and feel I am doing a pretty good job at getting my water, protein and supplements in . . . no real problems.  I am even tolerating the 2 Bariatric Advantage multi-v's my nutritionist has directed me to take.  I am trying to get in the chewable calcium citrate, but I need to chew 6 a day, which is hard for me at this point . . . I am wondering about the calcium in the milk I am drinking for my 3 protein shakes a day?  Does this count and is the calcium absorbed by my body?  Thanks for any answers here!

You'll absorb some calcium from the milk but it's hard to say how much.  You need 1500-2000 mg in supplement form beyond whatever you might get from food.
