What are some ways you remember? It is still habit to drink when I am thirsty. I try to keep my water far away from me when eating.. ugh!

instead of keeping the water far away... pour it out.
If I am at a restaurant with friends I have them take my water glass to their end / side of the table so I have to ask them to pass it to me and they always refuse

Try to drink plenty before eating and it is a lot easier to remember. Also, moist foods help

I have a timer on my phone and as soon as I finish my meal I set it to 30 minutes.  That does two things.  One, it tells me my meal is over.  That keeps me from picking at food when I am done.  and of course it let's me know when it is OK to drink again.

Good idea! I will try that. I hope i haven't damaged my stoma... I am four weeks out today and have been having trouble with this since the begining. I have just recently been trying to make a point to not do it. Eek.

early out I would not have a drink poured so i could not have any. I would also get up and start doing the dishes. If I was busy then I wouldnt drink.

The instant I finish eating I look at the clock and say outloud..."Okay, I can have something to drink @ xxx."  My family hears what I say, but if I am alone, saying the time outloud helps me remember.

Thanks Nik....I always value and respect the things you recommend and say.  You are right; it is pretty simple, but it really does work.

This may sound simplistic but it's something the brain tends to respond well to.

When you are done eating, say out loud. "Ok, I'm done eating at 12:30 so at 1 I can have something to drink."

Saying it out loud will help remind you and it will start to become a habit to think that way. Of all the post-op lifestyle changes, this is the one I always recommend pre-ops get into before surgery because it isn't easy. Nowadays it feels strange TO try to drink around my meals. I do occasionally but it doesn't feel right.

Don't have a drink near by and set a timer to tell you when to start drinking again.
