reactive hypoglycemia

OK, when I eat a bunch of tortilla chips and my sugar crashes, I figure that's my fault, it's what I get when I eat lots of carbs and no protein.

But when I eat a cup of Greek yogurt?  Um, I do not expect a problem with that.  That's just not fair.

Mom!  Life is being unfair again!

I experience the same thing about 1 1/2 hours after eating my greek yogurt for breakfast.  Very frustrating.  If I eat yogurt later in the day I don't have an issue.

I no like blood sugar crashes either! So far it's never happened on something like yogurt. But let me put some fruit in that yogurt without any protein powder and WHAMMO! It's like the carbs get to partying too hard and pass out in my system. I dunno. But I know better than to do fruit with yogurt, cereal with milk, fruit with crackers, crackers with (almost anything but meat or tuna). I just don't do it. It isn't worth the outcome.

Pam has that problem too. Random blood sugar crashes. Is there studies on this shizz?

I don't think there are studies.  And there should be.  Many surgeons (most?) still are not even warning patients that RH is a possible future complication after RNY.

I eat yogurt everyday, and some days (not often) I do have the RH issues about 30 minutes after I eat it.  I figure it is the milk sugar getting to me.  Oh well, it still doesn't stop me because I love it so!

RH is such a strange animal....I know some things that will trigger issues, but there are others that change with the wind direction.  Usually though if I feel it coming on if I eat a bit of cheese, a slim jim or a few nuts it sets me right.

Sugar is sugar, whether it is sucrose, glucose, fructose, lactose, galactose, dextrose, etc.

And they all have the potential to give you a reactive hypoglycemic episode.

Yeah, but I think normally the protein in Greek yogurt (plain Greek yogurt) offsets the lactose or carbs or whatever for me, because it does not normally trigger my RH.  Last time I had an episode was when I ate tortilla chips for dinner.  That was stupid, I know.  But Greek yogurt?  What am I supposed to eat that has absolutely no sugar of any kind in it?  I mean, I eat things without sugar, or with very little sugar, like beans and veggies... but I don't wanna eat nothing but beans and veggies forever.

My personal experience with RH has been, in the beginning, my triggers were very specific ~ simple carbs with little to nothing else.

Now???  Any ******g thing can trigger it.  Or, I can eat any ******g thing and nothing.

It's a crap shoot.
