I asked that too and they told me to wait until about two months out.  Your pouch isn"t healed yet.
You should be content with walking and you will get a lot of benefit from that.  In fact my doctor said to start with upper cardio workout at my two month check up.

My doctor told me last week I could work on Cardio and light weights. He said if it hurts to stop but I could try what I wanted to. Not sure if that helps but good luck :)

At my 2 week followup, my surgeon said I could start working out "with no restrictions."  I haven't joined a gym yet, but he was emphatic that I didn't have any limitations on working out.

I was given the clear for light cardio a week after surgery and then given the full clear four weeks post surgery.

Has your surgeon given you any indicator on approximate training times?

I'd suggest do some cardio and some very light weights, but avoid any core/abdominal exercises for just another week or two. You'd hate to do some damage to your new pouch, figured it would be better to be safe than sorry.

I was told that I could walk, bike, and use elliptical, but without using the arms now.  I can gradually increase my lifting  from 10 pounds now up to 50 pounds over 6 weeks.  No core work at all for six weeks. No hard cardio for six weeks.

I saw my MD today after my surgery a week ago and he told me to listen to my body and do what I am comfortable with. I am planning to walk my hilly neighborhood at a decent pace and see how it goes. I am anxious to hear if anyone pushed it an what overdoing it feels like.

I'm guessing everyone is different. I was feeling great at about 2 weeks out & went shopping for about an hour & tore my abdominal muscles. At the time of the shopping it didn't hurt at all, but starting the next morning I couldn't walk because it hurt so bad...my dr said I won't be able to walk for a few weeks now. So I'd suggest taking it very easy at first.
