four days postop
It is scary surgery and I think most people are nervous about it. I was still questioning my decision as I lay on the surgical table but I really wanted to get healthy and improve my quality of life. As soon as the achiness goes away you will forget about the first few days and the rewards will start to take over. Concentrate on sipping, take easy walks, read a book, watch movies, talk to friends, prepare your meals, in other words focus on taking care of yourself. If you feel it would help, call your doctors office and ask if they have someone on staff that you can talk to. It isn't something to feel embarrassed about so speak up.
I am 3 days post surgery and felt pretty good when I got discharged yesterday. I was walking the halls from 2 hours after surgery until i was discharged. but in the less than 24 hours since discharge, my pain has worsened immensely! I can't do anything without holding my left abdomen with my hand, so it's too hard to fix my meals. I'm also confused about my postop diet. I'm supposed to be only having 2 oz per meal, but what about my protein? My barrage of papers say 2 oz per meal on one place, but then say do the protein shakes first 3 months! one shake is 8 oz!! I'm confused!
i finally called the hospital to ask about the protein shakes and they said you get two protein shakes in addition to your 2 oz meals. what are these "protein bullets"? sounds a lot easier than drinking those awful shakes. i still have 4 oz sitting there. ugghh! i was doing GREAT in the hospital after my migraines were dealt with. but this first 24 hours home has been horrible.
