I'm really scared and I need advice

It happens.  Don't worry about telling the surgeon.  If you took precautions and it happend anyway (which it does, sometimes) he should not be upset with you.

Try to find an OB that is familiar with RNY or just go with one that handles high risk pregnancies.  And work closely with your surgeon, too, and have your OB get in touch with the surgeon as well.

What vitamins have you been taking?  The ASMBS recommended stuff, like two multis, 1500 mg calcium citrate, iron and B12?  Don't add anything different until you get labs done.  But get labs done ASAP and I would get them done a couple times during pregnancy.

Talk to your surgeon and OB about your weight and what you should do/expect during pregnancy.  I'm sure it is hard to switch gears but you do need to put your focus on your baby, now, not losing weight.  A healthy, happy baby is your priority.

Most people that get pregnant so early out do just fine, by the way.  It's just harder than it would be if you were doing it later.  Work closely with your docs and you should be fine.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

(((Meg))) call your surgeon then find a high risk OB/GYN that understands WLS.  You CAN deliver a healthy baby after WLS even though you are still in the honeymoon stage.  It happens.

My surgery buddy got pregnant 3 months after WLS, she was told she couldn't have babies.  She went on to deliver a very healthy little boy and lost all her weight.  Four months later she was pregnant again, LOL and delivered a little girl, healthy.  Last time I spoke to her she was back at goal and had no problems at all; she did have to change how often she ate to provide enough nutrition for the babies.

Deep breath.

I called my surgeon's office today, the nurse just told me to continue taking my vitamins and congratulations.

Lol NOT what I expected them to say.  They couldn't offer any suggestions on an OB/GYN that would have experience with WLS patients.  It was not a very helpful conversation, so on Monday I'm going to start calling offices to see who might be a good candidate.

Thanks for all the advice everyone :-)  I still can't believe this has happened.

Kelly,

I'm taking the usual vitamin regimen---multi, calcium, iron, b12.  The first test for my new OB is to have them order a full set of labs.  What should I ask them to include?
