Ambien

After my shower this morning I make way back to my bedroom to get dressed and notice a lonely almond in the middle of my mattress. I didn't think anything more about it and tossed it onto the nightstand.

Then I stepped on something. So I look down.

There on the floor was an almond wrapper (Blue Diamond 100 Cal packs), with little almonds surrounding it.

Apparently I was sleep-eating again.

Good grief.

I did not experience any eating (or other nocturnal activity) while on Ambien, but I had some auditory hallucinations (I thought I heard someone quietly calling my name even though I was alone in the house... not good for someone with PTSD!)

I tried Sonata but it made me really groggy in the morning, but I take Lunesta when needed with no problems at all.

Ugh! I've been afraid of doing that but apparently the worst I do on Ambien is folding laundry and applying self-tanner. However hubby's on alert to make sure I don't eat at night since the food dreams are getting more vivid (latest one was eating a Subway spicy italian with roast beef).

Would you come to my  house and I'll give you some ambien?  Do you think you might mop floors as well as doing laundry?

I wish the Ambien made me that functional! I have tons of paperwork to do that I'd like to not remember having done.... The self-tanner episode was interesting. I had it ALL OVER, including on the carpet & sheets, but managed to not apply it to my face - guess some brain cells were working afterall.

Right after my surgery I would call and text a friend of mine in Southern California. Apparently we chatted for hours. I never rememebered. I had to shut my phone off for a while.

I've emailed people while under the influence of ambien and had no memory of doing it.  And once I posted some long rambling post here on OH that I have no memory of.  I don't think anyone noticed anything odd since I post long rambling stuff here all the time, but I was a little freaked out when I got online in the morning and saw all the responses I had to a post I did not recall making.

Gosh I have been taking Ambien for 4 years and never done anything like that!  It doesn't even help me sleep anymore which scares the dickens out of me.  If I don't take it I will be awake for days at a time but when I do take it I sleep for an hour or two then am awake another 4 hours.

I would love to sleep for 6 hours solid!

Not every person who takes Ambien has the same issues. BUT, there have been many posts here about post ops "not rembering" activities in the middle of the night when taking Ambien. Most of them involve eating, but not all.  You might consider a different choice of sleeping pills. Or try Meltonin or Trytophan instead.  When you state "again" it does appear you've had this issue previously, like yoiur last statement said.  Another solution are "door knob alarms" I've seen at Home Depot for around $10. They fit over a door knob. Close bedroom door at night and turn on alarm. Turning doorknob will cause alarm to sound. Same alarm could be attacted to your fridge door with a carbiner, etc.  Slight movement while opening the door will also cause the alarm to sound. DAVE

I would probably talk to my doctor about other options if that was happening.
