Why do our tastes change?
I don't think I've ever gotten an explanation for this. I know it's very common for our tastes to change right after surgery, but why? My taste buds are in my tongue and I did not have surgery on my tongue!

I don't have any clue about this. But I know something is definitely up with my taste buds. I had a bite of my homemade mac & cheese (that everybody raves about & i usually like very much) and I didn't much care for it. I stopped eating at 1 bite.
I don't think I have dumping since I tried peach cobbler & sweet potato pie without incident so I guess it would be a good thing if my taste buds turned against such foods.

I actually had this same thought tonite and definitely yesterday at dinner. I made SF pumpkin pie and though I am normally a huge fan of pumpkin pie, it hardy even tasted good to me. I thought it was because I had to do without ground cloves, but my hubby said it tasted fine. Wierd also how I don't crave diet coke, ice cream or MC'Ds fries anymore. It wasn't too long ago when I would order lg fries, an ice cream cone to dip my fries in and a LG diet coke. Now the thought of that makes me want to gag! This little pouch is a miraculous little tool.
It does get better, at least for most people. I think things taste pretty normal to me now at three years out. Maybe sweet stuff is a little sweeter than it used to be but not like right after surgery. In the beginning, something like sugar free pudding seemed so sweet it was sickening. Now it tastes about like I remember it tasting pre op.
