This is a must read for anyone who is thinking WLS! For RNY even more so, because we can absorb ONLY certain types of vitamins or calcium. (Like Calcium CITRATE) or we need more B12 than a Bandster/DSer or VSGer.
Sometimes things (deficiencies) do not show up right away...It's not like..."Ok I skipped my Vitamins for a week and then I immediately feel bad..." (although you may!)
What happens is some people skip them more and more or aren't "religious" in taking their Vitamins, Calcium, D3 and B12 daily. Then 4 years out, they have permanent Nerve damage, irreversable bone loss, blindness, death of organs etc.
I "thought" I was taking enough D3, was taking it daily, but for me I needed more, and I now have some irreversable bone loss from not taking a high enough dose. (Now I alternate between 1 week of the Dry D3 50,000 ius and then 3 weeks of 10-15,000 ius...) but each of us is different. Even though I am menopausal I still NEED Iron (and highly recommend it to ladies even if they are post menopausal). I know it really help me stay lean, be healthy and allow gives me lots of energy and strength.
As always, thanks for your wisdom. Please bookmark the site Kelly posted. Pretty Please!
It is really vital to know, to share with other Post OP WLS.... It is absolutely the bare MINIMUM of what is needed of us.

Warmly,
Jackie
And keep in mind that the vitamins they say we need to take daily are just like a starting point. It's the foundation. We all need those but many (probably most) need additional stuff, based on our labs. Our own labs are the most important guide to what we need.
