Worst heartburn of my life...

I've only had this happen to me once. How was your eating that day? Mine was horrible.

When talking with hubby's surgeon, he said that generally the incidence of GERD is pretty low after surgery and that often over eating or eating too fast can give the same reaction as GERD symptoms.   He said that the same message is sent to the brain.  I've never had it again but it was a day for me that I ate an abnormally large amount of a variety of food.

This probably explains it. I ate a few bites of chocolate cobbler before going to bed. Not something I normally eat, and I don't normally eat that late either.

Definitely consult with your doctor the blood isn't a good sign.  I hope you don't experience this again, I've seen a couple of lapband people suffer tremendously with the acid even coming out of their nose it was so bad.

I have GERD. My increased weight added to the problem. Caffeine, which is in chocolate, irritates the spinter muscle in the esophagus. That would cause you to reflux. It is better to avoid caffeine at least 6 hours before bedtime, to decrease the occurence. I sleep with the head of bed elevated, but I have lowered it some since losing weight.

sounds like acid reflux.  That was the reason that I had my rny to stop the acid and it has.  I would have it nightly for years.  I have lengthy barrettes esophagus and my nasal passages are scarred from the acid.  My lungs are damaged from aspirating the acid.  A previous weight loss surgery years ago caused mine.  Of course since I had to have the surgery, losing the weight is nice as well.
