Did SUGAR do this to me?
Hi, everyone, I am about 3 1/2 to 4 months post op. I've lost over 80 lbs. I've been sick this weekend and am wondering if anyone thinks it's related to eating SUGAR.
On Friday morning, I ate part of a cupcake, made with real sugar. This is not the first time I've taken in real sugar, although it has been a rarity. About 10 minutes later, I began having a headache. Throughout the day my head hurt worse and worse. By the time I got home that afternoon, I realized I had not eaten anything since the cupcake, so I opted for something with protein. THEN I felt nauseated, along with the headache. These symptoms have waxed and waned all weekend. I THINK I'm finally getting better though. Part of me thinks it might be sinus problems because of the way my face also hurt with the headache. But I find it odd that the symptoms appeared just minutes after I ate the sugar-filled food. Any thoughts?

Doesn't really sound like dumping. Typically nausea, possible vomiting or diarrhea, rapid heart beat, anxiety, sweating, etc. are my symptomatic of dumping. It may have been something else you consumed or something entirely unrelated. If you've weaned yourself off of caffeine, and then had a beverage with caffeine, that may be the issue. I know my son cannot eat chocolate or have any form of caffeine, or he gets migraines. DAVE

No, you have somethign besides a reaction to sugar going on. The reaction to sugar would have been more than just a headache right from the start and would not have lasted more than an hour or so. The headache just after the cupcake is likely just coincidence, and was pmade worse because you did not eat properly since you ate nothing between the morning crobably upcake and when you got home in the afternoon... you really should have eaten something with protein for LUNCH.
How did you get in all your protein for the day without anything between the morning and dinnertime? Skipping meals causes unstable blood sugar levels -- which definitely could have contributed to the headache -- and that can screw with your metabolism and cause you to not lose as efficiently.. and you want to take as much advantage of the quick weight loss period as you can before your body begins to overcome the caloric malabsorption and the loss slows down.
