I am getting closer to my date and getting more and more nervous about the surgery and pain. I have never had any kind of surgery. My head is making me nuts!! UGH! :(

I hear you, I'm the same week you are and definitely nervous and anxious, but excited to.  For me I just remember that the pain will be worth it for the benefits that will come later!  Take care and just keep reminding yourself that everything will be ok and it's all worth it!!  Take care!

It will all be worth it! Just remember...don't let your pain get out of control. Know what your yolerance is (#1-10) and when you start heading up the scale, take your pain meds, make sure you leave them 30-45min to get working (for oral meds). Think how beautiful you will look in the end!

I wish you well. Try to focus on getting your food ready and gathering recipes
for the various food stages, and getting your vitamin regimen ready etc. It
should keep you busy and help make the time pass a little more quickly.
I have a fairly high pain tolerance and I have to say that the pain was more
an annoyance than real pain. I was sore for a week or so, but the pain
wasn't anything major at all. I think I used the pain pump a few times
the first day and then I asked for it to be disconnected. You may have more
or less, but just plan to take it easy for a coupla weeks. Good luck and we'll
see you on the losers' bench soon!

Try not to think about it too much.  I wasn't nervous at all until that morning, but everyone at the hospital understands that and they normally try to keep you occupied.  I had never had a major surgery either, so I understand.  I'm sure everything will be fine!  When you wake up, you'll be so glad you pushed through.  And, of course, the weight loss will make it all worth it!  Keep your head up!

I'm having surgery the very next day and I totally understand were your coming from but I went for my last office visit on (Wednesday) before surgery and I saw a woman that had seen in support group who had her surgery on Friday and went home that Sunday and was explaining that the pain wasn't that bad or as bad as she expected and that she wasn't even taking the pain meds.

My surgeryy is Monday the 21st, so I understand your feeling a little apprehensive - Me too.  I've never had surgery before.  But, I know that this is the miracle that I've been looking for, and I'm going to do my part to push through the initial stuff.  From reading other posts, it looks like we don;t have a lot to worry about in regards to the surgery itself!  Best of luck to you, and I look forward to seeing your "after" photos on the boards!

I was completely ready for my surgery. I didn't get nervous really until I was being prepped for surgery and even then, the only tell tale sign that I was nervous was my BP! LOL

I, too, expected much more pain than there actually was. Right after waking up I kinda felt like my insides had been beaten with a baseball bat, but getting up and walking made me feel much better! That first walk is a doozy, but push through and the rest will get easier and easier! As for after surgery, I was on my pain meds a little longer than I intended on, but only because I returned to school one week post-op and ended up doing too much which created more pain. 2.5weeks post op, I finally felt pretty close to normal and haven't had pain since then! :) Best of luck to you!

My surgery is the same day as yours.  While I haven't had RNY before, I have had a couple of major surgeries.  My doctor has already said I will have the pca pump (the button to push) and that will give great pain control.  Also get up and MOVE. Walking is the best way to get rid of the gas.  And with my last 2 surgeries it was the gas pain that was the killer.

My surgery was in October it was also my very first surgery but it wasn't bad at all. Try to stock up on your basic needs broth, jello, and proteins. Practice sipping fluids and chew foods until it's liquid.
Exercise and find the peace within thats going to be so happy afterwords.
I hardly used any meds just remember to measure your foods especially the first few weeks.Good luck to you!
