My surgery was in 2008. I still dont drink while I eat. Is any one else still doing this?
How much are yall eating? How many calories are yall getting in a day?
I have no support group here. I moved from being military back to La. NO bariatric will see me bc I have no issues. Thank you Jesus, but I need support. I need help getting back and staying on track. That is why I am dedicated to staying on here. I feel lost.
I am trying to get my carbs down. My protien up again. If yall can view my tracker please look at it and help me if you can.

I HAVE drank when I've eaten before, but it is far from a normal occurrence for me (did it more when I was pregnant because I not only wasn't gaining weight, but I was losing, so I needed to get hungry more often so I could eat more). So as a rule, no. I don't drink when I eat now. I wait at least 30mins after eating.

I can drink large quantities at a time, so getting in 100oz a day really isn't hard for me at all.

Calorie wise, 1200-1500 is where I shoot for and try to stay. At least 80g protein, normally 100g.

Thanks!

Do you worry about stretching your stomach? I worry that if I drink too much at a time that I will ruin everything. lol I think its part of being uneducated.
What are ways you get your protien in and keep your carbs down?

Drinking will not stretch your stomach.  View it like a funnel you drink, it enters your pouch then flows through to your intestines.

As for getting in protein while keeping carbs down.  Think of your protein sources ~ beef, poultry, pork, seafood, dairy products (yogurt, cheese, etc.), eggs, beans.  Avoid white carbs especially (rice, potatoes, corn) and eat complex carbs (veggies, fruit) then you should experience fullness quicker and not get hungry as frequently.

Nope! Water, or well any liquid, can't strech your stomach/stoma. Our pouches are like funnels so any liquid that goes in just pours right on out. I say drink to your hearts content. Your body will thank you!

Carbs and I have a constant battle. They are a huge trigger food for me and I love them dearly, but then again, all carbs are not created equal in my book. Even 'simple' carbs are not bad, because fruit is a simple carb. Actually...I hate the terms 'bad' and 'good' in relation to anything like that. Iol I'm a fan of all things in moderation type mentality. One apple a day isn't bad at all in my book. 5 apples, may not be the best idea ya know? Milk, also has carbs, but mixed in a protein shake is good in my book. A piece of white bread or a hogie roll...eh not so much.

70 carbs from milk, fruit, and veggies is not the same as 70 carbs from a bag of doritos. Ya know?

Eating protein first is the only thing that helps me. :)

I don't drink while I eat.  We are advised to do that for life.

I eat about a cup of food at a time and get about 1500 calories a day.

Aren't there support groups you can go to in LA?  I would think there would be a lot of groups there.

Kelly I'm not from the same area in Louisiana as the OP but support groups where I live total ONE and the facility and surgeons do more lapbands and VSG then RNY.  So support in the large metro areas like New Orleans, Baton Rouge and even Lafayette may be available the smaller metro areas or small communities are not very WLS friendly/supportive.

Drinking while eating for me has been problematic. I just have not been able to stop it. However, I usually only sip tiny amounts. Sometimes food is very dry and I find I need the sips. I hope this helps.

Thank yall!

Support groups... They want me to pay out of procket program fees. Even though I have Tricare. IT's bc they didn't do my surgery. Liability issues they said. Its a money maker thing..... But I am going to keep researching for a few friends and I and go are try and facilitate one at my work place. I work at the Hospital in Jennings! I really think we would beneift! I just need more resources.

I never knew how many calories to be shooting for. I know that I am not reaching 1000. and when I do I mentally feel like a failure like a fatty, as if I am over eating. I also know that I wont loose unless I eat more. If I dont eat enough calories I dont loose weight. I just never knew what enough calories were for me.

My doctor has explained the pouch to us like this....
The reason you dont drink while eating is bc its like a balloon. If you fill it with fluid it blows up so your body absorbs that instead of the protien you eat first. So, I always thought if I drank too much water, more than 8 oz at a time, 8 oz pushing it, that it would cause me to stretch it and then cause me to over eat later, and me gain weight.... u see where this is going. I feel crazy some times. Its touch not having any one to talk to. My Regular doctor knows NOTHING about this. When I moved back home I had to tell him what labs to draw. lol

I still dont drink with my meals!
