Self-inflicted Dumping
I am not one of those people that can have a bite or two of chocolate or the occasional fried foods without feeling sick. I'm very thankful for it because it definitely keeps me in line. So...today at work, our bosses had an Employee Appreciation Day for all 700 employees. Free tshirts for every one... Great idea! Then there was a meal...even Better Idea! Until I got my plate that is. Fried fish, french fries, cole slaw, hushpuppies, and good ole' banana pudding. OMG. I'm dumping just looking at it. So I sit down with all my co-workers and I make the decision to at least take a few bites. Don't want to seem ungrateful right? It's been about 20 minutes and I feel like warmed over crap! Why did I do that to myself?

Employee appreciation day? With all that fried stuff..think of the colesterol and heartattacks..or is it trying to kill off our employees day? LOL Yes I know..for other people somes not all bad. Would have been nice if they had had some more healthy choices. But I do wonder..any employees with heart problems? I am willing to bet you werent the only one that this wasnt the best selection for.
Hi Tonya:
I have been there several times and have yet been able to keep that particular meal down. Good ole southern food. It will get you every time. I can eat baked fish now, but I still cannot eat fries. If I try more than 2 they are coming back for a revisit. Last time we had an employee appreciation day, I brought my own protein bar. Got a plate to be polite and ate my bar on the quite. No one knew any better. I hope you get to feeling better. Sometimes it is better to get it up and out of the way and go on about your day.

Tonya honey, if it makes you feel better... I do the same thing to myself and also wonder how nuts I am! I seem to get ill a lot more than I initially thought I did... sometimes even a sqaure or two of dark chocolate can make me feel sweaty and queasy for about 1/2 an hour.
Knowing this, does it stop me from doing it? NOPE. I know I bring it on to myself... and hopefully I'll reach a point where I can balance the sickness against my 'want' of something and have the potential sickness win!
Until then, I get what I deserve.... but I am thankful it happens, because this tells me that if it didn't, I may have some trouble. If I didn't get sick, I'd need to work on that willpower and it'd be critical to figure out the underlying issues STAT!

It sounds like you did it because you were more concerned with other people's feelings or opinions than your own well-being. You didn't want to appear ungrateful and chose to feel like warmed over crap instead.
Do you always put yourself last?

Then you know what you need to work on.
Politely declining food that will make you feel like crap is not ungrateful. It's reasonable.
You don't take one look at the food and shriek at the top of your lungs, "What are you doing trying to serve me this crap? Are you trying to kill me? I can't believe you even eat this crap!" That would be ungrateful. And rude.
But if you say, "Wow, this looks really good. I'm going to have to pass because my doctor has me on a special diet, but I really appreciate the thought." Does that seem ungrateful to you?
