1. What type of calcium is recommended for RNY folks?
2. Why can’t we absorb calcium carbonate very well?

Calcium CITRATE!
2. Why can’t we absorb calcium carbonate very well?
Um....cuz I think the absorption points for that kind are either cut-off or re-routed in our new systems.
3. How much calcium does the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery say we need?
I can't remember but I wanna say 2,000 mg?
4. What vitamin is known for helping us absorb calcium? Bonus points if you can tell us how high your level of that vitamin should be (as seen when you get your blood work done) in order for you to absorb calcium well.
Vitamin D3
I personally have to take 50,000 IU a day to keep mine from tanking but I am sure for others it is quite a bit lower.
5. Calcium blocks the absorption of what vitamin or mineral?

The amount of calcium the ASMBS says we need is 1500-2000 mg, so she's right there.
Some of the places where we absorb calcium have been bypassed which makes it hard to absorb a lot of calcium, and that applies to all types of calcium, citrate and carbonate and others. But what is it about carbonate that makes it harder to absorb that citrate? Anybody know?
