fluctuations in weight

We all know it's normal for our weight to fluctuate, right?  But here is what makes no sense.  I've been pretty good lately at staying away from carbs, and today it put on a pair of shorts that seemed pretty tight last time I wore them.  Today, they fit really comfortably.  Not loose or baggy, but very comfy, definitely not tight.

So I got on the scale.  I'm up two pounds.  How does that even make sense?  Weigh two pounds less, shorts are tight and uncomfortable.  Gain two pounds, shorts fit and are comfy.

Makes no sense to me.  I'm taking my own advice and staying off the scale for a while, I guess.

I think it has to do with water weight.  I bet you lost fat, but you are retaining some water and that is why the shorts fit better but you weigh more.

I have NOT be staying away from the carbs, I had a terrible day today, I ate a freaking crescent, what the hell was I thinking, and I just feel like a huge cow now.  I will punish myself tomorrow and get on the scale, it keeps to accountable.

In fact I had a horrible weekend.  I need to recommit and stay the hell away from the carbs.  The closer I get the goal the more I struggle with staying on track.  Is that normal?

I think it's pretty normal.  By the time we get close to goal, we can eat more volume, we can usually tolerate a lot of yummy food, sometimes we get fooled a bit by the rapid weight loss we've had so far and feel like we can indulge when we want without negative consequences (maybe in the very beginning but that does NOT last forever - I'm not saying we can never treat ourselves, but we cannot just eat whatever we went whenever we want and think we'll lose lots of weight and never gain it back).  And old habits do creep up on us again, which makes perfect sense.  Surgery was on our stomachs, not our minds.

It probably is water.  Actually, I've been eating more salt lately because roasted chickpeas is my new favorite snack and I like them with lots of salt.  I typically eat very little salt so I'm not really worried about too much sodium.  But could be causing some water retention.

When I saw my surgeon in August for my 6-mo follow-up, I was telling him about having stalls during that time. He said "Yeah, but your clothes were fitting differently, right?" Apparently, your weight kind of shifts around regardless of what the scale says. I've found that to be true since then, as well. The scale may not be moving but my clothes are definitely fitting differently.

I need my weight to "shift" to my a$$, sorry but I do.  I have no butt.  It was bad to start but now it is just non existent.  Where do they sell those under wears that have butt padding, I need those!  Like stuffing your bra, I am going to have to stuff my underwear

I use a food tracker each and every day and my totals for calories, carbs and protein don't vary much at all, however, my weight can be 2 lbs different, up or down, each day.  Can't tell anything about clothes because my tummy is still swollen from my hernia surgery earlier this week.

Salt? Bingo. It all depends on how and where you carry tha****er. Most people retaining fluid you can see it in your ankles. If you were sitting for a long time fluid may have drained into the lower half of your body. Hence the advice to "put your feet up." Can also be as simple as when your bowels last moved.

Thank you for posting this, I was wondering this myself today of how my weight could have went from 171.4 to 173.8 this morning, not much but still up. Prob the salt and poop factor. We will see what tomorrow brings.

I think that you are toning more than the last time you tried on the shorts????  I am leaning that even if my weight doesn't move off like I think it should be...I am loosing inches and toning a bit more...and I must say that I tried the roasted chickpeas...and burned them...will need to try again...lol
