Vitamin Quiz - and there's a prize!
I’m bored so I thought we’d do a vitamin quiz. Plus I have a prize for the winner.
I’m guessing some people will think it’s a good prize and others will think it’s lame. But what I have is a one week supply of ENS, which is a powder you mix with water. I think it tastes a lot like Koolaid. One packet is a multivitamin plus 500 mg calcium, and you should take two a day, so the prize is 14 packets. I bought a ton of ENS some time ago because I had a special deal where I could get half off of whatever I ordered. I liked it a lot for a long time but I am just tired of it now and am taking regular vitamins that you swallow most of the time. But I can’t just throw this stuff out. So if you want to try ENS or if you have tried it and like it, get to work.
The winner will be the first person to answer all seven questions correctly. Good luck!
1. 1. How high should your vitamin D level be in order to reduce your risk of osteoporosis?
2. 2. What is “dry D3" and why do we need it to be dry? How will you know if the bottle of D3 you are buying is dry?
3. 3. What type or types of vitamin A should we take? What type should we avoid?
4. 4. We are advised not to take calcium carbonate because we won’t absorb it well, but what about tricalcium phosphate? Bonus points if you can name some popular calcium supplements that contain tricalcium phosphate.
5. 5. What bad things might happen if your B12 level gets too low, as in 400 or below?
6. 6. Why do we need to take B12 as a sublingual, or nasal spray or shot, instead of just swallowing a B12 pill? (I think we all know that it’s absorbed better, but how come it is absorbed better?)
7. 7. f you take 60 mg iron, how much vitamin C would you need to take with it to increase absorption?

2....dry is dry..not in an oil based gel cap..look at the ingredients
3....avoid the beta carotene...retinol acetate is good
4..tricalcium phosphate..that would be a 'NO'...brands: not sure, but I have seen it as an ingredient in gummies
5...numbness/tingling in extremities..nerve damage, possibly permanent.
6...As an RNYer, we do not have the gastric intrinsic factor
7..400 mg Vit. c (200 per 30 mg)
I hope these are correct:) I also hope that this post prompts other people to look up some answers and learn more about their bodies and supplements!
PM me with your address and I'll send you some ENS. Would you like grape or wild cherry? Or some of each?

2. We don't absord anything in oil.....Dry D3 could be in a capsule, but in dry powder form. If it's
in a football shaped see through form, it's not Dry. We malabsorb fats.
3. We should take Vitamin A is fat soluble
4. Tricalcium Phosphate takes more acid to break it down......Citrical Gummies has it as the ingredient
5. Low b-12 causes depression and fatigue
6. We cannot absorb B12 that we swallow because we lack intrinsic factor in our pouch.
7. 400 mg
I don't know if #3 is right....
Low B12 does cause depression and fatigue but if it gets down to 400 or lower, it will also cause nerve damage. Your hands and feet start to feel like they are falling asleep, numb and tingly. And that may be permanent, even if you get your B12 level back up.

Answer, folks! I'll put up a second work week's worth of vitamins (drawn randomly).
