ARGH! annoyed about therapy appointment

I had an appointment scheduled with my therapist this afternoon at 1:00.  At least, that's when I though it was.  I recall looking at the appointment card the receptionist gave me last week just last night.  And after I checked the time on it, I threw it away.

So I got to the office today about 12:55 and the receptionist tells my that my appointment was at noon, not 1:00.  I'm confused because I feel so certain it was 1:00 but she keeps telling me it was noon.  So I reschedule for tomorrow.  At least I didn't have to wait another week.

But I'm frustrated that I managed to get there today only to find out I was late, and I'm kind of worried because I usually have a very good memory and when I get mixed up over stuff like this, it's usually a sign that my PTSD and/or depression is really bad.  It's a bad sign.

So I get home and I decide to  look for that appointment card, because I am just so sure it was 1:00.  I have to dig through the garbage.  Ick.  But I found it.  And guess what it says?

Yep.  1:00.  I am taking it with me tomorrow to show the receptionist and my therapist so they know I didn't just not show up.  But I'm very annoyed, not only because I missed my appointment today when I shouldn't have, but because that receptionist had me thinking I was confused, and it turns out I wasn't.

Arugh!  There's nothing worse than being told you are wrong, believing it, and then finding out you were right!  I'm glad you found the card and will show it to the receptionist and your therapist, they deserve to be at least a little shame-faced.

I will definitely take the card with me tomorrow, but I just got off the phone with the receptionist.  She did apologize but she didn't really sound like she thought it was a big deal.  But I just told her that she cannot give me a card that says 1:00 if she wants me to show up at noon.  I don't know if she verbally said noon or 1:00 last week when I made the appointment, but it doesn't matter.  You can't tell me noon and write down 1:00 and give me the card that says 1:00 but expect me to show up at noon.

I do plan to talk to my therapist tomorrow because it really upsets me.

Sorry Kelly....what an incredible waste of your time...not to mention the
frustration and angst.  Maybe they'll be more mindful in the future. I
get the rush and commotion of a front office...used to run a front office
for a doc a lifetime ago, but still the same.......you are owed an
apology and if the front office doesn't give you one, talk to your
doc about it. They usually don't want patient angst over their
errors.

I had that happen once with my therapist and I was pissed. He told me that I should come back the next day. I had to wait an hour because I had been dropped off and had no way to leave until I was picked back up.

My therapist passed away last week, after a 2 year battle with cancer. I've seen him for the last 10 years, and although he was no relation at all, and we weren't really 'friends,' after talking about intimate details of my life all that time, him dying seems like a big loss. May he rest in peace.

Oh, wow.  That would be hard.  It's a huge loss.

Me too!  I had to dig through the garbage can to find it.  It was kinda gross.  A couple cans of cat food, kind of smelly, a couple slimy banana peels, etc.  But I was really relieved to find it.
