It's going to be uncomfortable for a few days, no doubt about it, but I suspect you've had worse and survived.

Depends on what type you are having as well, lap or open.  I had an open RNY and will not lie about it, it was very painful.  I was really miserable for a few days, but when I hit the 2nd week it was much better.  Took me a good 5-6 weeks for ALL the pain to go away.  Will I do it again, most definitely.  Take the meds the doctor gives you, they really do help.

EVERY SURGERY is going to hurt some..  That is why they give you pain meds.  It will pass quickly if you have lap surgery, less quickly if you have open.

For me the pain was minimal. I didn't take any painkillers once I left the hospital, I was allowed Tylenol once I got home but didn't even take that. I had open RNY, no external stitches or drains so that makes a difference. I was driving to support group on day 5 post op and felt fine from then on. It felt like I had done a couple hundred sit ups, but that was more muscle soreness, not actual pain. The more you move after surgery the better you'll feel. Get up and walk when you're in the hospital and keep walking. That helps with pain and stiffness also.

3-4 days of pain for a lifetime of health? Is that even an issue?

My pain was centralized by my crazy hospital roommate.
