I havent had a BM in over a week.  I usually take miralax daily but last week nothing would stay down and ended up having a stricture. I had a dilation Friday. I unfortunately am super uncomfortable.  I took the regular dose for Milk of Magnesia and NOTHING. Am I doing something wrong?

If you're really uncomfortable, I suggest Dulcolax suppositories.  Take one and you'll be pooping in less than an hour.

How long ago did you take it?  I usually find drinking something warm after helps better and I get results with 2-4 hours after.  If you are impacted you may try an enema to help give you relief.  I cannot use the Ducolax suppositories I get horrible cramps from them.

If you haven't gone in that long, putting something in from the top side won't do much if you're backed up so you'll have to try something from the bottom side!
Glycerine Suppositories work really well, they aren't a stimulant so there's not much if any cramping and they'll make it easier to pass if the stool is hard. You can insert one and it will usually work within the hour. Someone had told me if one didn't clear everything out then repeat every few hours until you felt you've cleared out the blockage!  If it's hard it could cause tearing, bleeding and damage that's NOT good! Enema's are also helpful to break the stool up and make it easier to pass as well.
Some have used Magnesium Citrate solution which is known to clean you out. I'd ask your Dr. if it's safe for you and if you do use it make sure you're at home or close to the toilet for a while!
You need to do something because an impaction can be VERY dangerous and lead to other issues!
Once you've gone make sure you're drinking a LOT of water and take something to keep you from getting this backed up. I take 2 stool softeners before bed and use Miralax 2x a day.
Are you on pain meds or any other meds that could cause constipation?

Apparently the directions on the package don't apply to me. It said you should see it working within 1/2 to 6hrs. It took 19hrs for it to work. I feel so much better but I'm still.very gassy.
I'm not on pain meds. I usually take miralax daily but because of my stricture I wasn't able to eat or drink anything. Nothing would stay down. So no miralax equals a very backed up jenn.

Magnesium only works when your body has enough of it. So the extra are going into your colon and absorbing a lot of water.
If your body needs magnesium - what ever your drink -0 the body will take and nothing will reach the colon... so no BM.
You may need to take more and more so the surplus will cause the "laxative" effect.
Apparently you were magnesium deficient...

hi!

Im having the same problem. When it finally did work for you, were you stuck in the bathroom for awhile, or is like a one and done? I have a concert to go to and im terrified to have the runs or something while I'm there. Its frustrating that its taking longer then it states

I had a terrible week in that department.  I finally had to do a Fleet enema and that worked.  I'm also trying straight, unsweetened aloe juice from our health food store.  It tastes horrid but if it does the trick, I'll keep drinking it.

Since you said you couldn't keep anything down, I'm assuming the stricture was near your pouch, correct?

I hope the stuff works for you. Yes, the stricture was near my pouch. It was my second one I've had.

I was like you after my surgery too. I did the MOM and nothing for me either. I used the glycein suppotories until the blockage was gone then upped my water and took 2 stool sofeteners every night for a few months. I don't take anything now and have a bowel movement everyday or every other day.

I hope you find what works! :)
