What will happen if we decide not to cheat on the pre op diet?

That's a good idea.  Keep in mind that you aren't necessarily giving up those foods forever.  After surgery, you can have a treat sometimes.  This is a temporary diet that you're doing to get yourself ready for surgery.

Great reminder.  I think the fact that I de-carbed and de-caffended before surgery were 2 of the reasons my recovery went so smoothly.  If we can't follow a program for a month or however long the plan is, what are we going to do for the rest of our lives.

Thank you so much, Poet__Kelly!  I am on day 6 of my liquid diet and I so needed these words of inspiration this morning.  I copied them and put them into a word document and made them all pretty and printed it out for me to look at for the rest of my pr-op days--only 4 1/2 more to go!

This is a great reminder even to those of us who are not pre-op, this is about the disciplined mind over the indulgent mind.   I've come to realize that this is the same me after WLS as it was before.  I still have all the same self-doubts, cravings etc, and I have a year to get the new habits in place.

Meanwhile, I take one day at a time.

You're right, the cravings and urges to eat don't go away when we have surgery.  Some people don't get hungry for a while afterward but at some point those things will come back.  So most of these things apply after surgery, too.

Thanks for this Kelly!    I am going to print it and tape it to my bathroom mirror.

I have decided I am going to put a LOT of energy during those two weeks towards doing stuff to get ready for my new life.   My biggest task is totally re-doing my closet, down to painting and putting in a new organiztion system.  I am going to need distractions and those distractions might as well be the kind that will help me keep my eyes on the prize! :)

Thank you for this reminder! I'm currently working on my insurance required 3 month pre-op diet and it's so hard. #4  and #7 are the hardest ones for me and ones that I am going to have to keep working on long after surgery.

I will say that knowing that there are stages that I'm having to go through for all of this is helpful to me. I have to diet for 3 months (or so, depending on surgery date, of course), then I have to do the liquid diet for 2 weeks. Then surgery. Then all the steps that come after that. Each step has an end in sight and that is helpful. And after it's all said and done I will have a unique tool to help me work towards new goals and a healthy life. It's going to suck come the holidays when everyone else is eating all the good stuff and I'm still doing my 3 month diet, but I'm gonna try real hard to keep my eye on the prize!

*group hug*

Thanks again, Kelly!

It was hard to get the "head hunger" out of my head so to speak, but now after being on the pre-op liquids and then I'll have liquids after for at least 2 weeks.  Now I'm more afraid of going back to food!! Does that make sense to anyone?!! lol

The liquids are great after about day 4-5 at least for me...I could do this a long time I'm actually full and not hungry and more. It's the chewing I miss..so I have crushed ice in my protein shakes gives my a crunch I'm missing!!
