OK, I'm cutting the carbs!

OK, I admit it.  I might be addicted to carbs.

Quit laughing.  Seriously.

Not only do I eat too many starchy carbs, even though I try to limit them, I have been eating them even though they make my stomach hurt sometimes.  Well, duh, imagine that, eating half a package of rice cakes at one time makes my stomach hurt.  I guess that's not a big surprise, is it?  But when you eat something over and over again even though it makes your stomach hurt, you might have a problem, you think?

So I am cutting out the starchy carbs altogether, with the exception of protein bars.  No bread, no rice, no rice cakes, no pretzels, no popcorn, etc.  For one week.  Yes, I realize one week is not very long and I'm going to need to avoid them for longer than that.  But one week feels doable.  Saying no crunchy carby things ever again is likely to cause panic.  So I'm saying none for one week.

Anybody else need to give up anything for a week?

Yep, Kelly... sure do.  I'm with you on the carbs... but my carb demons are sweets.  I'm cutting them out for the week entirely... then after that, I'll play it by ear.  Gotta just cut the cord, get back on the wagon... not that I've seen my weight fluctuate much, but I'm starting to feel like I 'm using sweets as treats, looking forward to what I'm going to have.

I won't give food that power over me again... it doesn't get to control when I'm happy and when I'm not.  So, Kelly... you do your thing, I'll do mine and then in a week we can talk about what happens next!

Good luck to you!

We gotta remember it gets easier after a few days.  The cravings do start to go away.

I gotta go shopping and buy some more chickpeas.  I made the yummiest roasted chickpeas a little while back.  That's what I need for a crunchy, salty snack.

I am dying to try those... this weekend, for sure.  That will make my week easier, I think... having something good to munch on will distract me from missing sweets!

I think I'll do garlic powder, salt, pepper and dill... that's what I normally put on my popcorn and love it!  Can't wait...

I hate to admit this, I am going to get yelled at, but I need to stop picking at the Halloween candy.  Today, in my classroom, I ate 3 pieces!  I guess I don't dump when I eat sugar in small amounts.  I am happy I don't dump cause I do want to enjoy a little piece of candy or bite of cake from time to time with out feeling like I am going to die, I just don't want to enjoy them 3 times a day or everyday of the week.

Freaking Halloween CANDY!!  Oh how am I ever going to get through Christmas and all the cookies!

You know what I do when I want to stop eating bad stuff, I wear really tight waisted pants that are uncomfortable so it is a constant reminder to not eat bad stuff.  So I need to go buy some size 6 pants that will cut off my circulation!  LOL

That's hysterical, but I can see how it would act as a deterrent.  I'm going to dig out my tightest pants and give it a shot, lol...

I did have a victory today, though.  I was working through some especially dififcult coding stuff for work when I started thinking about the cookies in the pantry.  I was just about to get up to go get some when I saw the box of Quest PB&J protein bars on my desk.  I literally sat my butt back down and pulled out a protein bar...

I felt a certain amount of pride for recognizing the pattern and breaking it before giving in!  Now if I only I can stay away from the sweets at other times... when I want them just because of how good they are!  That'll be another victory when I re-turn that corner and get back on that wagon...

I think each time you do it, you're one step further toward developing a new pattern.  Something doesn't become a habit just because you do it once or just because you think you'd like it to be a habit - it only becomes a habit after you do it again and again.  So each step is important.  You should be proud of yourself.

I won't yell at you.

I think Halloween candy would be an easy thing to end up eating too much of.  They are small pieces and so one doesn't have too many calories or too much sugar, so it's not a bad choice for a small treat once in a while, but it's easy to think oh, one won't hurt and if you think that three times a day (or more - I bet I might eat more if I had any around here, which I don't) and then it all adds up.

Check out Nik's blog.  She has recipes for protein drinks that taste like cookies.  I think there's a sugar cookie one and there's a gingerbread one.  Sometimes when I want to avoid nibbling, I drink instead since I won't eat while I'm drinking.  And if it actually tastes good, I wouldn't miss a cookie so much.

I also know that I am addicted to carbs.  Thanks for posting.
I could have written your post too.  I will join you in the one week  challenge.  I also like the idea of wearing the tight pants.  I don't wear any elastic waist stuff unless it is my workout clothes.
My slacks all NEED to have a button and zipper.  I find that helps me with my comfort zone.
Please add me to your prayer list as I need lots of prayer.

Hopefully we both get through the week without any and then it gets easier for us.

The tight pants might work for me, too.  I have some size 8 and some size 6, so maybe I need to stick to wearing the size 6 for a while.
