I have tried sublingual b-12 3 times and each time had a nauseating really bad migraine within 20 min.  I am prone to them, but these were a worse/different kind.

what should i do? i am not taking another one and i am scared to try a different form and have the same problem.  years ago i took b-complex and got a migraine.  i know it is supposed to be important, how important?

argh!! anyone else have this?

Never heard of this but sounds awful! There are other forms of B12 - nasal sprays and injections. You could see if they have the same reaction. I know the injections are 1 x per month and worse case scenario you only have to risk the migraine once a month. Hope you figure this out.

Never heard of that one. I've had severe headaches for years. Not diagnosed as migrain, basically no reason at all. But my sublingual B12 made no difference in my headaches at all.  DAVE

You probably have the B12 as cyanocobalmin.  Have you tried the methyl-cobalmin form?
Anyway -B12 may help increasing the BP. That may explain the headaches.
Maybe injections- once a month - or once every 2 weeks would hlep?
The only time I feel that I got extra energy when I took B12 was when I depleted.
Maybe you are depleted and you are getting the rush every day when you take it?

I haven't heard of anyone complaining of migraines from B12 as of yet.  I have read about migraines being one of they symptoms of B12 deficiency and I have even read about using B12 to treat migraines recently.

That being said if it is causing you migraines you are going to have to get in your B12 somehow.  It is highly important.  Long term deficiency can cause Pernicious anemia in people that lack the intrinsic factor needed to get B12 from food and swallowed pills.  And with the RNY you are now one of those people.  Serious issues including numbness and tingling in your extremities (peripheral neuropathy), depression, dementia, permanent nerve damage with the neuropathy.  Some serious stuff is involved with B12 deficiency.

With shots you could get at them in the office in the beginning so your results could be monitored.  Perhaps that is the place to start?

B12 is very important.  B12 deficiency causes things like fatigue, depression and even permanent nerve damage in your hands and feet.

What's your B12 level currently?

I think I would try the B12 shots.  Many people only need the shots once a month, so if it does give you a migraine, at least you'd only have to deal with it once a month, you know?  There are meds that prevent migraines, at least sometimes, so maybe you could talk to your doc and take something to try to prevent a migraine shortly before doing the shot.  But hopefully taking it in a different form would prevent the migraine anyway.
