As I posted earlier this week, my surgery was nearly canned because even though I meet bmi requirements for every other insurance, Tricare required you be at least 100 pounds over ideal body weight.  At age 55 I am going to be in the upper part of the range.

But, thanks to OH and the wonderful people here, I am back on track.

rdy4change11 let me know there has been a change just this month. Here is the web page to print for your surgeons office if you need it.  This was just updated 10/11/2011

Tricare now require NIH recommendations of BMI >40 or BMI > 35 with approved comorbidities.

I have Aetna and Tricare and had my surgery on 10/11/2011. Tricare only required the 40 bmi or 35 with co-morbidities. I can't find the letter they sent, but my approval with them was the easiest.

that just really sucks...glad i had this done when i did becasue i didn't have to do these things..i mean i didn't have to prove i was on WW and go to the doc every month to show i am trying.  I just had to fulfill some comorbities..sleep apnea...100 lbs overweight and high bmi.  I had two of them..sucks to have to prove the weight loss and have to check in with a doc every month.

I'm so glad you were able to get things worked out!  Hopefully, you won't have anymore problems along the way!  Good luck to you!
