Well, I was all set for surgery on June 25th, had my EGD and preop labs done and found out I was diabetic and surgery postponed to November 28th.

Since getting sugars under control I have slowly been losing weight,  So yesterday I called the surgery coordinator to see if I needed second EGD.  While talking to her  I mentioned my BMI is down to between 37.5 and 38.  And she says get in here and get weighed.  You are Tricare and they don't go by BMI. They only pay if you are at least 100 pounds over your ideal body weight.

I have multiple comorbidities.  And I have a fused rib cage that won't expand, so I have to get this belly out of the way can so I can breathe.   If I could breathe i would try to pound it off in the gym.  But increasing activity actually drops my oxygen levels enough to give me chest pain with EKG changes.
Anyhoo, I weighed today right at 100 pounds over.  So here's praying I don't lose any more.  On the plus side I might get out of a preop diet.  Thanks for listening.

Definitely sending you thoughts and prayers. Isn't the whole thing frustrating at times? Seems like it just takes forever to get through all the approval hoops. I hope it all goes well for you.

I'm so happy there is a community like this for you to vent to people who understand!

I think it's so odd that they go strictly on weight, not BMI. So they don't take ANY co-morbidities into consideration?? I've never heard of that.

My sincere prayers go out to you, here's to nothing else going wrong and you getting to keep your surgery date!!!
Starting BMI between 35 and 40ish?

Actually its 100 pounds plus co morbidities. But since I posted earlier, I have been told they just recently changed to BMI..  Praise God if it is the case because I am well within the BMI plus apnea, diabetes, and hypertension, restrictive lung disease, arthritis, etc etc.  LOL

Thanks so much to ya'll for the well wishes and support.  I just want to be able to breathe and move at the same time.  I use to be a ball room dancer. Not a great one but a ball room dancer none the less. LOL
