sometimes you just have to do it

Ain't it the truth!  Just about everyone will eventually find something protein-forward that they like... it just takes time and patience.

However, in the meantime... like Kelly says, JUST DO IT.  If this means mixing protein with less fluids and literally holding your nose while you choke it down, that's what you have to do.  You want to be as healthy as possible, and you can't get that way without keeping your protein consumption regular.  Believe me, that phase won't last forever... so take it day by day and literally do whatever it takes to get that protein down until such time as it doesn't seem like such a chore.  Your weight loss will be better (your body will be less apt to think it's starving if it's getting ample protein) and you will heal from the major surgical trauma better and quicker with good protein consumption.

YES, this is hard to do when you're nauseous and the protein seems so nasty to you.  However, as someone on this board once said (and I'll never forget!), WE CAN DO HARD THINGS.  You CAN do this, and you won't regret it....

Bon appetit!

Yes, I too, found a protein drink that I love.   Infact, I actually have 3 that I alternate.  This did not happen over night, and I spent several hundred dollars until I found mine.  Until that happen, I just suck them down as fast as I could.
I drink one every morning and sometimes will drink one at night.  I get in a lot of protein.

Well this explains a lot.  I now understand why my sugeon does what he does. He does not let anyone go back to work for 4 weeks.  Not until he is sure you are able to get your protein and fluids in by mouth.  I will have a g tube into the old stomach for 4 weeks after surgery, What I can't drink by mouth, I can put through the g tube to get the protein and fluids. The food log they have you use tracks what is in by mouth and tube separately.  I knew why he does it, I just didn't realize how hard it is post op.  I am still pre op and really appreiate all the info here.  THANKS!!!

Thank you for putting out there what I think everytime I read a post about not being able to get protein in or not liking it etc.  Life is about choices.  What is the alternative?  I sure didn't want to give birth but I loved my beautiful babies!  We all have to do things we don't always like or want to do.  One thing this surgery has worked on is my brain!  I can chose to look at the glass half full or half empty or just want a new glass............I love that saying!  Until I took off some weight, stopped having a daily pity party I had a hard time understanding it.  I work hard every day on reframing how I view things.  If you are a negative person it is so easy to stay in the negative, be attracted to negative thoughts.......much harder to make the choice to be positive.  So I am sorry sometimes the things we do preop stink, recovery can be difficult and proteins may not taste great etc.  Do the best you can and make a choice to say "what's the alternative?"  I choose to be as positive as I can most times and enjoy the good health and positive things I learn every day and most important cut myself a little slack.  Some days are great, some kind of suck but every day is an opportunity to begin again.  Do your best, it is all you can do.

It is really hard to force yourself to drink a lot of something that tastes totally vile to you, though.  I understand that because I really did know why I needed to get my protein in and I really wanted to do the right thing.  The first few protein drinks I tried, however, we so awful that it would take me quite a while to summon up the strength to take one drink.  I would spend all day staring at this glass of protein telling myself come on now, you gotta drink it, just drink it.  It's hard.  I really sympathize with people.

But yeah, what is the alternative?  Losing all your hair, feeling like crap all the time, ending up skinny but with heart damage?
