Vit D3 injection, ouch or not?

 Hello,

I'm back with another question on Vit D. I've been what French doctors call mildly Vit D deficient since my bypass 4.5 years ago, it's possible I was deficient
before surgery (it's quite common in morbidly obese women says the surgeon) but I didn't know it.

Neither my GP or surgeon find my average of 26 D-25 hydroxy measure anything to write home about. They're French, very laid back. They do prescribe VitD supplements, but mostly D2 (alcohol exipient) and it has done absolutely nothing for me over several years.

So this morning I assaulted my GP with data from the internet, I'm sure you know how doctors love that. He was not looking pleased, but he gave in and prescibed a mega dose of Vit D3 (200,000 UI) plus another blood test in one month, then we'll decide how often we need to repeat. As far as he's concerned anything over 30 is fine. On this forum people say anything under 80 is certain early death, he said are you going to believe a doctor or strangers on the internet? He has a point. But doctors have been known to be wrong too.

The exipient for this Vit D3 is fatty and it can either be swallowed or injected. I asked to get the injection (I'm going back later today) because then I know it'll be absorbed. Apparently French pharma does not offer a dry Vit D3, he searched his database of drugs for quite a long time and no luck. Will I be sore? I don't care about the shot per se, but I am a whimp about soreness afterwards. Shoud I ask for bum or arm? I'm sure most of you take the dry stuff from vitalady, but if you had it injected, could you tell me how it was the next day? Thanks!

I seem to remember a post recenty where you "..did not believe in high dosages..".  Now, you're talking about 200K IU of a D3 in an injection? I've never heard of a dry D3 injection, but it may not be available in the US.  I'd still highly recommend the dry D3 from vitalady.com .  She has a private brand and Biotech brand, basically same product. I did see Amazon carried the Biotech product, but was more costly than from Vitalady.  Take these small capsules of dry D3, there is NO PAIN associated with them.  Levels above 80 assure your bones are getting the maximum benefit of your daily calcium citrate, besides removing about 50% of the odds of coming down with cervical cancer, colonrectal cancer, breast cancer, MS, neurological disorders, etc.  YOU DO NOT NEED a script for this dry D3. The only script D is D2 in the US.  Again, never saw one post here in over 5 years on the topic of an injectable D3. DAVE

It's standard care to give Vit D bollus for people who are deficient. I don't believe in mega dosing in general (half of my relatives in the US mega dose on several vitamins every day), but if a doctor tells me it's standard care, I'll do it. I'm a lot more skeptical when it comes to Vit supplements sold over the internet. I may get to the point where I try Vitalady, but I want to explore other options with my doctor first.

Personally, I'd believe the person that could point to studies backing up their statement about how high you need your D level to be.  I can show you were I get the number 80 from.  Will your doc show you where he gets his number from?
