How do you avoid the temptation at work?

I started a new job at an office and people brought in reeses peanut butter cups and they ordered pizza. They do ths ALL THE TIME. 4 times a week all the time. I ate a mini reeses cups but no pizza. But it was right in front of me all day. A foot away. How do you avoid temptation? I did have my water and my lunch I brought and I had a protein bar but still...it was hard!!

Being in an office setting is hard on out RNY eating style. Today we had Starbuck pastries, food from an amazing bakery and desserts from the same bakery. It is the best place in town. I just had to make up my mind not to eat that food. I weighed the pros and cons. Would eating any of this amazing food be worth the progress that I made. So, I ordered French Onion Soup (no bread) and sat with everyone - and I was happy. The temptations are constantly there in an office setting...it's the battle we have to fight on a daily basis and make the decision to eat it or not to eat it. Maybe you can move the candy dish...unfair to be sitting there in front of you move it if you can.

I got lucky with my job, I have to cook for the residents so I cook their food then I make mine separate.

The halloween candy dish has been calling my name.  I have been tempted -- but couldn't risk the laxative effect at the office.  If it weren't for that, I'd be eating it.

I keep power crunch bars in my desk.  Also healthy snacks like apples and sometimes Kay's naturals munchies.  I drink a lot at work too -- keep coffee, sf hot cider mix  handy.  It helps, just a little.

Sometimes it's worth it to voice your needs. Like "guys, I really appreciate the camaraderie here but could you not put your junk in my face?". Maybe better wording. That might apply better to sexual harassment situations.
Or saying something along the lines of "anyone gonna put up the pizza? it's been sitting out for 2 hrs and that's just gross and unsanitary". At least in the fridge, it's not in your face.

Sorry Nfarris, I have to disagree with your suggestion if for no other reason than it's going to cause her to become very unpopular in her office to call them out about something they enjoy.

The entire office should not be expected to adjust their mode of celebration because of someone who has had weight loss surgery.

We live in a world where food is how most events are celebrated, and it's up to us to learn how to deal with it...

In spite of how we might really want to have it differently, the entire rest of the world does not revolve around us and our weight issues.

I also work in an office where there are lots of donuts and snack foods
around all the time. I just tune it out. I have my healthy snacks and foods
on hand so I just don't give it a thought. My health means so much more
to me than junk food that somehow I've been able to just tune it out
completely. I also don't get all that creative with sweets and stuff....I limit
my artificial sweeteners because it seems that the more I have, the more
I want, so I just don't go there. I try to eat healthy, clean food most of the
time. I think it helps me stay away from  junk. If I want something sweet,
most of the time I will have fresh fruit.

I plan ahead, which lately I have sucked at for some reason.  I bring my bag with my lunch and snacks.  I really don't have a problem passing on the foods and sweets they bring in as very few foods hold any attraction for me.

Now on Thursday or Fridays if they do pizza I will eat 1 piece as I will be running 8+ miles that saturday, but I also make it fit into my daily allowed numbers.  I thought Fridays would be my hardest because we do a friday icecream social  EVERY FRIDAY.  I have a protein bar and sit and talk while they have ice cream.  Every once in a while the person bringing in ice cream will remember me and bring in a SF option (Last week the has No Sugar Added Eskimo Pies ).

Again the key is to  plan that way when people break out the snacks you have something you can enjoy with them.

Cottage Cheese
Cheese Sticks
Yogurt
Greek Yogurt SF Pudding Goo
Deli Meat
Apple and Peanut Butter (Hard Workout Days)
Protein Bars (I go through probably 25 a week)

It gets easier, the more you get used to it and the more others get used to it.

The hardest part is taking control of your head and body and not letting your head control you and what you want.  It took me a while to do this but once I was able to take control life got a lot easier for me especially having kids and all their snacks at home.  I have one friend ho will bring me SF Chocolate once every 3 months or so and 1 chocolate bar will last me about 3 months.

You can do this look what you have accomplished so far.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Today I went to the grocery store before work and i bought fiber one brownies (which really helped) and 100 calorie starbucks iced coffees, and 100 calorie packs roasted almonds. I also bought a big bottle of seltzer and drank it all day. I did have a bit of my friends fast food burger but it was much better than yesturday!
