All in One Bariatric Vitamins
Thank you so much for your post, because I had questions about that very subject. My surgeon is highly reputable and successful in bariatric surgery, but during our pre-op diet meeting we were given bottles of all-in-one bariatric vitamins that I assume are made by another company... but were labeled with our doctor's office name on them (they probably pay for that privilege).
Anyway, in addition to the various familiar vitamins and minerals they included a lot of unfamiliar "diet" herbs and supplements... also I couldn't help but notice they included Magnesium Oxide, which is not readily bioavailable when taken orally. Plus they suggested we go to Walgreens and purchase co-enzyme Q-12, which made me wonder why that wasn't just included in their multi-vitamin package.
I haven't asked them yet what the deal is, but I am thinking I will just go "off line" and get my own vitamins somewhere.... meanwhile they also have a link to Bariatric Advantage on their website with their own special store, yet their store only includes the calcium citrate, sublingual B12 etc, not the multi vitamins.
Anyway, thank you for listening.

If you're not comfortable with the product your doc's office sells, you can certainly buy something else.

As always THANK YOU! It is always appreciated our resident "Vitamin Gurus" (Kelly, Vitalady, Andrea, etc) who take the time (again and again) to help educate both "newbies" and veterans alike!
I was so suprised at one of our WLS meetings how many people who were 4-6 years out were taking Flintstones and Tums!?!??!! and had not been getting their labs done and having all these physical problems.
I printed out a copy of the ASMBS vitamin and labs recommended worksheet for everyone. As a "newbie" I wouldn't have known any better...But I came to OH and a few other sites and learned from people like Kelly and VitaLady and am much healthier for doing my research and learning! :)
Thanks again kelly! ((((hugs)))
Warmly,
Jackie

I am glad we had this discussion because I don't believe I need to take my B1, B2, and B6 anymore, nor my D3, I am not sure about the B12, because as Kelly posted I only thought it worked in the forms she mentioned.
So if I take the BA vitamins what else do I need besides iron. When I do remember to take my Multi do I still need to take extra D2, B1, B2, B6 and B12?

You need B12. Because you lack intrinsic factor in your pouch, you must take B12 in a sublingual or the nasal spray or shots.
Whether or not you need additional D3 depends on your labs. Do you know what your vitamin D level is? Most post ops do need more than you get from a multi and in your calcium.
You only need extra B1, B2 and B6 if your labs indicate that you do.
