Using a Trainer to Your Advantage
I've just spent six slightly expensive weeks with a trainer. I had been wafeling with whether or not to continue with him because of the financial aspect, and I wasn't entirely convinced my dollar signs were resulting in any shrinkage (hey, I pass by the mirror every day!). Last Wednesday we did measurements and I squealed. Four inches off my abdomen. I made him take it twice...plus other places, but that was the most prominent. I could with confidence say the investment paid off.
Still, it's a lofty investment. And one I was fairly certain I just couldn't carry past our six week committment. Plus, other arrangements he was trying to make with me would still result in my having to shell out a large amount of money all at once. It could happen, but it would have been several weeks before I could have started meeting with him again. Which, in effect, would be like starting over.
Well, when we did measurements he made me an offer on a monthly basis to meet twice a week, plus a boot camp, which works out to be what my highly exotic cable bill was (I shut it off several weeks back). THAT I could do. So I re-upped. He also helped helped me figure out what was making me sick in my protein supplements (HUGE thing here...because my NUT did not do this), and went as far as to have me bring in packaging and go over ingredients listings. Last night we narrowed down what it was (a bunch of additives and junk), and he showed me the ingredients list on a new powder.
He said, "It's expensive, but I will bet it wont make you sick."
He was right.
Next to the decision to have my surgery, my trainer has become a great resource for me. I'm glad I took the plunge (initially it was impulsive), and am excited to see where the next six weeks will have me.
Just wanted to share. Use a trainer!

I know exactly how you feel. I would not have done as well as I did if I did not have the most fabulous trainer ever. I asked her up front if she had ever trained someone that had a RNY and she said not but she would investigate and see what was needed. That she did and she was a true blessing. It was VERY expensive but 8 months was well worth it.
Good luck to you

Mine's hysterical. Which makes it fun for me, another perk. He does seminars - a mini boot camp followed by a nutrition class with a free dinner. I thought it might be something I could toss at some others in my area/state (forum). I think it's something worth doing since the results are life changing.
Trainers rock!

I just got a trainer a few days ago and after three sessions I am convinced its worth it. She pushes me harder than I push myself, teaches me how to use things at the gym I wasn't aware of, and is also a nutritionist as well as having a degree in Kinesiology. I am paying $145 for six half hour sessions. So, two weeks worth. I plan on looking at results after a month and then maybe doing it through the end of the year if I have good changes. I figure by then I will know what to do myself.
I love my personal trainer ~ I'm anxiously awaiting my next time to take measurements. My guy has never worked with anyone that had WLS either but he's been really good about helping me through this whole process, the owner of the gym is also one of the trainers and he has even done some research on RNY so he can help me with this darn stall I'm going through.
Yep, it's money well spent that's for sure!

I use a trainer and have had amazing results.
The way I keep the cost down (although it is still expensive) is that I only use her once a week... the other two nights I do the machines based on a schedule she prepared for me.
I am soooooo happy with my results but it is a major pain to have to have such an expense.
Mine is $60/hour... how much is yours?
