OT - why is it that men can't find things?

We read in the bathroom because Typically if the woman hears the fan going they will leave us alone for a while!   And we only read after we have completed all of the newest Angry Bird levels.

Well, that is true!  I have certainly learned to stay away from the bathroom if the fan is going!

The answer is, because he knows if he pleads ignorance, you will get it/ find it/ pick it up for him.

Well this is certainly a frustrating experience for most of us with a man in the house. I have used your grandmother's phrase (if it was a snake it would have bit ya!) millions of times with my husband! He will have his head stuck in the fridge, and shout, "Hey, where's the ___?" To which I will reply, "Second shelf, left hand side!" And after minutes of searching and griping he will tell me, without a doubt, it is NOT in there! Of course, I go in to help and there it is RIGHT where I said it was!

So, Kelly, check it out....as funny as this is (or infuriorating depending on the moment), (and btw you ladies are a hoot!!) there really IS a scientific reason!!! I found this...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-499964/The-Christmas-sex-war--men-women-avoid-yuletide-rows.html  (this link actually goes into many other details of why men do some other stuff as well!!)

As a nest-defender, a woman has brain software that allows her to have an arc of at least 45 degrees clear vision to each side of her head and above and below her nose. This was needed to keep an eye out for potential predators.

A man's eyes are larger than a woman's and his brain configures them for a type of long-distance tunnel vision, which means that he can see clearly and accurately directly in front of him and over greater distances, almost like a pair of binoculars - useful in times gone by for tracking down prey, but not so helpful when it comes to finding things in cupboards.

The female hormone oestrogen also prompts nerve cells to grow more connections in the brain and makes it easier for a woman to identify matching items in a drawer, cupboard or across a room and later remember objects in a complex random pattern - such as where the ribbon is in relation to the Sellotape in the cupboard.

New research suggests that male brains are usually searching for the word to go with an item, so if the tub is facing the wrong way and he cannot read the label, he virtually can't see it.

This is why men move their heads from side to side and up and down as they scan for a 'missing' object."

You  know how often I have to find the remote for my partner?  And it's usually right next to him.

I was laughing thru this ENTIRE thread!!!
Ah, small comfort that this is a universal struggle..... I love my DH with all my heart and he is a very considerate guy, but my personal theory is that he can't find things because he's repeating over and over again in his head what I told him to get/where I told him it was, that he can't concentrate on actually retreiving said item. He tries so very much not to peeve me off, and it's really a futile effort sometimes!

Just a few minutes ago I went into the kitchen to feed the cats.  I saw that when my partner did dishes earlier (which was very nice of him, he did a ton of dishes), he neglected to wash out the skin.  There were little bits of food drying to the skin.  Yuck.  Then I got out a can of cat food, which he picked up at the store earlier (I was trying to get through the store as quickly as possible, so I sent him to the pet section to get cat food while I went in search of protein bars), and saw he got the correct brand, but not the correct variety.  One of our cats has diabetes so there are specific varieties of food she is supposed to have, essentially lower carb ones.  Eating a few cans of higher carb food won't hurt her, really - but how hard is it to pick up the right ones, when she has been on this food for more than a year?  There are maybe eight kinds our grocery store carries that she is supposed to have.  A full year would be long enough to learn what those eight kinds are, wouldn't you think?

Okay, since you want the truth, I'm going to give it to you.

Men cannot find things for the same reason they cannot see things such as dirt, dust, and a sink full of dishes.  Genetics...

I'm telling ya, this is it.

Our vision may not be the issue at hand. My "pet peeve" is the practice that markets practice locally. Once a month, they hire a crew to come in and rearrange the damn store. I know where things were last week, but this week they are completely in a different location.  I told one clerk last week the needed a road map for the customers when they did this. Stupid me--I was told they had a "locator list" of most items that were moved.  A few things in the store cannot be changed easily, like the deli counter, cold storage for dairy, or produce. But anything that sits on a shelf not requiring refrigeration is an item likely to be moved in the next month or two.  So a simple trip to the store for 4-5 things may take over 30 minutes trying to locate these items.  And when I ask where an item is located after these moves, I usually end up having to ask multiple employees to locate the item.
