I have been having protein oatmeal everyday now for a while.  I do it a little differently, though.
I use the packets of instant oatmeal because I am lazy and don't like to measure if I don't have to.  Not really cost effective but I get it at the dollar store so it isn't too bad.
I take a scoop of unflavored whey isolate and put it in my blender bottle with 1/4 cup ho****er and shake it up and add it to my oatmeal.  Then I put another 1/4 cup water in the bottle and shake it up to get all the protein out of the cup, because I am weird that way.  I shake that up and add that to my oatmeal, too.
I stick it in the microwave for one minute then stir and put it back in for another minute but I turn off the microwave as soon as I see it boiling over, usually about 20 or 30 seconds.  I stir it up, add some sugar free brown sugar and cinnamon syrup, butter and milk and enjoy.  Comes out perfect every time.

You should put that in the comments on the blog! I love to show different ways of doing things.

I don't use pre-packaged oatmeal mostly cuz I like the flavor of my homemade oats better. I don't find measuring hard. I just keep a quarter cup measure in my box of oats so it's always there (and a tablespoon in my Splenda jar for the same reason).

The longest part of that process was waiting for the water to boil, which literally took about two minutes, then three stirs. For myself, I usually nuke it once the ho****er is in (for one minute) dump in my remaining ingredients, stir once more and I'm done!

But please do put your method on the blog so others can see that my way isn't THE only way!

I'm lazy like you (LOL) and use the packets. I found some tasty sugar free apple cinnamon and some sugar free maple brown sugar at Walmart last week. I prepare it with the ho****er then let it cool a bit and add some unflavored protein powder. I've never been a breakfast person and oatmeal is about all I can force myself to eat!

I tried the maple and brown sugar oatmeal, too.  I made it the same way and it was really good.

I tried this recipe the other day

and I gotta tell you, it was NASTY!!! the vanilla protein powder was just disgusting

but never fear, I'm going to try it with the unflavored and see if that makes a difference

I love oatmeal, maple and brownsugar is my favorite flavorings, but the added protein just absolutely grossed me out

:(

You tried the recipe I posted this morning a few days ago???

First I get emails from the future and now this. What's next???

Kidding.

How much protein did you add to how much oats? My post tells you a good starting ratio to ensure that the protein doesn't overpower the whole thing. Mine tasted like peanut brittle (as per the recipe). I hope yours gets better!

I have the blog saved!  and it was the cinnamon bun one is what I tried

I did 1/2 cup dry oats and 1 scoop vanilla powder, I tempered it as it said, then slowly added ho****er, let it sit, nuked it a few seconds more and added some SF maple syrup

the vanilla was over powering, grossed me out, and I can feel the powder/grit

I just tried it with the Unjury unflavored, and thankfully it tastes like my old friend oatmeal, however, I can stilllll feel that powder.  Maybe I'll try dissolving my powder first and then add that liquid to the oatmeal

Well kudos to you for trying something new. At the stage where you are now I was still petrified of food as everything tasted overpowering to me.

Perhaps you just don't dig the vanilla powder in oatmeal? That's an absolutely valid thing, ya know. :)

I post recipes mostly to inspire ideas. If you look back through the history of the blog, I celebrate folks taking my ideas and making them their own. So if you like unflavored, go for it! If you don't like protein oatmeal, that's perfectly fine too!

At least you're experimenting, which means you have the right attitude!
