Tylenol with Codeine for back pain??

I have such bad back pain in the last couple of months ad tylenol only helps for about 20 minutes. I forgot I had leftover tylenol with codeine in the house back from my kidney stone. Would it be back to take this a couple nights a week for back pain?

I've taken it a few times and haven't had any immediate side effects.  Helped with my back pain much better than regular tylenol.  I plan to ask my surgeon when I see him next month for my 4th month visit.

I received a codeine based pain killer in the hospital and was sent home with it.  It is okay to take after RNY.  It is not an NSAID.

I know it isn't an nsaid. That was my primary pain killer after surgery. I'm just wondering it if it is bad to take it a lot??

Thaks!

Codiene can cause alot of constipation so be careful with that.  Codiene is also addicting if you take it too often.  Hope your back is better soon!

I believe the addictive qualities as well as the chances of constipation are the biggest concerns as stated by the previous poster.  I would still make a quick call to your doctor next week to confirm.  I do use my old Rx pain meds for back pain when nothing else helps.  I do find, however, that ice is usually my best defense against the pain and valerian root really helps relax the muscles when I am having spasms.

I think taking it occasionally when you are in pain is fine.  It would be a bad idea to take it every night so you can relax or something like that.

If your doctors tells you it is okay to take then there is no reason not to take it.  I have been on duragesic pain patches and percocet for years for my back and this past year since having surgery for complications and kidney stones, I have had to alternate with dilaudid.  When our pain is bad, we have to take pain meds.  I couldn't survive without my pain meds.  The pain is unbearbable - sometimes even with the meds.
