Gym etiquette? opinions please

When I went to the gym today there was a lady walking on the treadmill and talking very loudly on her cell.I was there about 45 minutes and she was talking the entire time.
It was very crowded so I had no choice but to use the one next to her.  As soon as someone left  I moved.

It really bugged me for some reason.  I like to get in my own world when I work out and I had a hard time doing it with her next to me.  She was so loud  I could hear her over my music.  I would love to hear your opinion.

If she's talking away, she' s not working out very effectively for one thing.  I'd say something to her if it happens again, she's disturbing your work out!

I muti-task a lot, but this lady was over the top in my opinion. I think it was rude. It would be great to ask nicely, but in my experience the request isn't met amicably. I sort of figured out a way to circumvent these situations and reclaim my space. I simply start coughing...louder than they are talking, and I keep it up until the offender knocks it off. I mean what are they going to do, tell you to stop coughing? You could do a litttle shrug, and mouth a sorry as a buffer if they appear hostile too.

Most places I've been have a policy strictly prohibiting cell phones - you're in your right to be peeved, it took away what you get out of working out. Did you feel like you couldn't tell her to pipe it down? Maybe she didn't realize how loud she was being.

One time I was at a gym where the same thing happened- the lady next to me was jib-jabbering away (and this was in Hollywood anyways, so she was in full makeup and definitely there to 'be seen' rather than work out). Anyways, I looked at her and thought "boy that's pretty dangerous, not holding the bars and not paying attention or anything" and right then- a circuit in the gym blew, leaving half the treadmills (including mine) running, and half- including hers- just stopped. *Faceplant*.

So sometimes these things work themselves out :)

I don't think it's very polite to have a loud conversation on your cell phone in any public place.  At least not most places.  If you are in a restaurant or a library or whatever, you should conduct your call very quietly or step outside where everyone else won't have to hear your conversation.

I'm pretty blunt so I would have asked her if she could put her cell phone on speaker so I could hear the other side of the conversation. If she seemed offended, I would have just noted that if she was forcing me to listen to half the conversation, the least she could do was have the courtesy to let me participate in the whole thing.
