I got my set of glass containers before x-mass a couple of years ago.  If you check around at the stores they usually will have boxed sets towards the holiday time.  I believe mine are pyrex and they have lids with them that you can use in the microwave too.

I keep a glass bowl in one of my desk drawers.  I store and carry my lunch to work in plastic containers and reheat in one of the communal plates in our breakroom or in my glass bowl.

That sounds much more doable then sending lunch in glass containers.

The more I read about the PBA, the less comfortable I feel about most plastic containers.  Actually,
I understand that it is what makes the plastics somewhat flexible, so godonlyknows.

I don't use any plastics in the microwave just because of the off-gassing done by plastics when
it is heated.  for storage, I think it is OK.

sigh,  who knows what is safe anymore??

I know, it's hard to know.  And pretty much impossible to avoid everything that might be bad for you.  Heating in glass dishes sounds easy enough to me.  I'll probably get some glass storage containers at some point but I don't have a lot to spend on them right now.

I haven't read the studies...but it makes sense that plastic is not good for you after heating in it.  If you've ever burned garbage, plastic stuff gives off a terrible smell when it burns - I guess plastic is made from petroleum, isn't it?  It's mighty handy and cheap.  I still use plastic, but I do prefer glass.

I save glass containers from stuff I buy and reuse them.  I've bought some glass containers too.  I don't really break as many as you would think.

If I were to do what I think was best, I would quit using plastic altogether - but considering all - money and convenience - I'll probably keep using plastic - but will try not to heat it up to much.

I respect people when they make a choice and then stick by it!  I'm more wishy washy, I guess.

Since surgery, I have noticed my taste buds are a lot more on point. I have been noticing my foods, eaten out of or stored in, the Gladware, Ziploc or Rubbermaid containers seem to leave an aftertaste in the food. I also have some plastic storage containers from Ikea that don't seem to do it. It's mostly the very inexpensive one like I mentioned above.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that worries about stuff like this. A lot of my friends call me a treehugger, but I worry about it! I obviously have enough health issues that I don't need anything from plastic on top of it. I'm trying to use just my glassware and only use the plasticware for cold stuff I don't need to heat (that's when I get "the taste").

And what's wrong with being a treehugger?

Oh, nothing at all - and I embrace it. It's just irritating sometimes, kind of like when I was a vegetarian all the questions and pushback one seems to get for some reason. :)
