utter confusion..2 oz. @ 2.5 years out?
I went to see my surgeon today for a follow up. I weighed in @ 163lbs. Not bad in my opinion. I have been heavier and lost the couple lbs I gained and consider myself maintaining well. So I thought. My surgeon asks me, How many ounces are you eating at a time? I say about 6. HE FREAKS OUT. Says I should only be able to eat 2 oz. and that I am going to stretch my pouch and gain weight and that is probably why I am gaining weight. I felt like crying. All day I have been so mad. Not only do I have epilepsy and at my lowest weight(152) was I having seizures and struggling with my with reactive hypoglycemia. (Still struggling with the rh daily). That was of no concern to him.
Your surgeon's statement is nothing short of ridiculous. You would starve to death eating only 2 ounces at a time without fat reserves for your body to rely on to sustain you!
It is also distressing that he is unconcerned with the RH. Sorry, but I think he's an ass. He is not very informed about nutrition and is either intentionally trying to scare you with the pouch stretching thing or inexcusably ignorant of the muscular nature of the pouch and the expected increase in a mature pouch size.
Please don't let him upset you with that nonsense.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
He talked to me like it was the first time I was in his office. His opinion was I should eat 2 oz. 8 times a day. Maybe this would help my blood sugar. He also was quick to point out that in no way could my surgery have anything to do with my seizures. Whatever! I was stable for 2 years prior and was addiment about the malabsorption and being on liquid seizure meds. I still take liquids and always will. I am so shocked at how he was today!
If I got that treatment advice, then I'd restrict my visits to that surgeon for emergencies ONLY. If you're comforable at your current wt, able to maintain it, and don't have siezures, then I don't really understand why he's freaking out. Go to any support meeting and you'll hear that almost all post ops eat more than 2 oz after 7-8 months post op, usually 4-6 oz. DAVE

Your surgeon is an idiot. You should be able to eat approximately 6-8 oz of food at a meal, sometimes more sometimes less depending on how hungry you are and the density of the food. Don't dwell on his crazy comment.

Jeez, I haven't eaten 2 oz of food since I came home from the hospital. Tonight for dinner I had 5 oz of prime rib and at least 1/2 cup of cauliflower. I would be screwed if I could only eat 2 oz.
