Vow to stay off the scale, win a prize

Earlier today macjuicy suggested we should all destroy our scales and post pictures.

I know some of us feel our scales are helpful to us and I think we should all stick with what works best for us.  So if weighing yourself on a regular basis helps you, then don't break your scale.

However.  Especially for new post ops, I think the scale often is a source of frustration, depression, anxiety, guilt... probably other feelings we don't want or need.  I think most of us could do just fine not weighing ourselves every day or even at all in the first few months after surgery.

So anyway, macjuicy said we should break our scales and post pics.  I said I'd award a prize to the person that posts the best picture.  I'm not sure if people realized I was serious, though.  But I am.  Destroy your scale, post a good pic, and someone will get a price.  I haven't decided what the best prize would be yet.  Maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant with WLS-friendly food?

If you don't wanna break your scale, that's fine.  Like I said, if weighing yourself helps you, then keep doing it.  And if you spent a lot of money on your scale and can't afford to buy a new one later on when you might want one, that's OK too.  I'm not breaking my scale because one, my partner uses it and would be very unhappy if I broke it (and would just run right out to buy a new one) and two, since I am in maintenance I feel it helps me to get on the scale once a week or so to make sure I'm still maintaining, especially since some of my meds may cause weight gain.

But if anyone wants to ditch their scale, there will be a prize.

Great idea! My scale and I are no longer friends so I have no problem ditching it.

Oh Kelly...... BREAK my scale?????  NOOOOOOOO, please not that!!!!  LOL!!!!

I have gotten better.  I don't weigh every day.  Maybe 2 or 3 times a week now (YAY!!!).  And I really only "count" my Sunday weight.  See? I've come a long way from my fanatical daily weighing and going bizerk every time the scale moved an ounce.

Here are my pics..... sorry they are so big.... don't know why they came out that way.....

Since being on OH I have often wondered why so many talk about stalls in the first months of their surgeries. I am 6 weeks out and weighed at the doctors the first week and have not weighed since. I go back the 29th and will be weighed again. I know with this surgery I will lose weight. I refuse to be a  slave to a scale, I do not even own one.  I will get one when I do  maintenance. I have not posted any pics, but do take pics.  I plan on posting them at six months in stages (mostly for newbies to see the difference). For me seeing pictures here was and is very helpful. I just hate the whining of some when they talk about being in a stall. Seems like a waste of time to me. I know the weight is coming off because I am in smaller clothes. I have more energy than EVER!  I think it is awesome what you are doing. I can't wait to see all the pictures.  Good Luck to all!

You're correct that with this surgery you WILL lose weight.  I think many people have a lot of fear that they will be the one person ever that has RNY and still does not lose weight.  Since most of us have tried repeatedly to lose weight in the past without success, we tend to have a lot of fear of failure.  I think that's one reason so many new post ops weigh every day but unfortunately, I think that just feeds the fear because the fact is, no one is going to lose weight every single day or even every week.
