does anyone have to take optifast for 4 weeks?

My surgeon wanted me to do that, but what with changes to the surgery date I ended up only doing it for three weeks.
I had an Optifast "shake" every morning, and an Optifast "soup" every mid-day for about 20 days.  I added a little bit of salt to the soup to give it some flavor.
I was (I think) also supposed to also have some sort of Optifast product for dinner as well, but I never did.  Instead, I made a green salad each evening, using mostly iceberg lettuce, and adding some kidney beans, slivered carrots, green onions, a tomato, and often a boiled egg or half a can of tuna fish.  I used store-bought, fully-leaded, salad dressing.
During that three week period, I was pretty good about not cheating.  The result was that I lost 20 pounds.
That was about 15 months ago.  I've done pretty well since then.  Good luck.

Learning to swim was easy.  The hard part was getting out of that burlap sack.  Those rocks were heavy.

I had to drink it for 2 weeks pre-surgery, and didn't mind it. I liked it better than protein shakes.

Thanks for all who answered me it was helpful.  I usually never write anything here I usually just read everyones posts. It is great to have someone who can help you, and not to feel like you are the only one going through this process.

Yep, 4+ weeks.  5 shakes a day plus one small food meal.  Wasn't bad at all, just boring.

I was on Optifast for 6 weeks prior to surgery.  I lost 30 lbs.  I was glad to get a good start.
I could not eat all I was allowed (7 per day,  2 bars and 5 soups or shakes).  I suggest that you do not over buy.

I had to also...just a suggestion, the nutrilite protein drinks from Amway are much much cheaper and the same if not better nut stats. Good luck!

I had to and I got such good results that I postponed my surgery a bit, I use both optifast and medifast to get more variety.  I have found good deals on both Amazon and eBay for both, but one supplier sent me a coupon as well for their site: www.myweightcare.com/shopping

I will say it can be tough the first week only eating the planned meals, but you can do it.
