DO YOU KISS AND TELL?

Oh, Hell... everyone knows.  Once I told my mother, keeping it a secret wasn't even an option.  LOL.
I have been known to share with total strangers, though... like one time I went to Walmart and grabbed a pair of size four pants off the rack and tried them on... and they fit.  I got REALLY excited and went out to ask the dressing room attendant how they looked and then proceeded to blurt out that just a year ago I was 300 lbs.  (I'm lame, I know!). This, of course, led to a whole conversation about WLS.  I just wanted someone to celebrate with me and no one I knew was around.
I do find that I am more likely to share the information with someone who is heavier, though. I'm not sure why that is.
So, while during the honeymoon (quick weight loss) phase, I was telling everyone, NOW I find that I just want to stop talking about it for the most part.  I am actually looking forward to starting this new job on Monday because NO ONE will know I was ever fat and everyone will just see me the way I am now.

Of course you have a right to not tell others, that is your decision.

But I wonder WHY you are ashamed??

Hello and congratulations on your weight loss success!  I have chosen to share for a number of reasons. Probably the most important is that I have a very hard time not telling the truth.  If someone asks me how I am losing the weight, to tell them anything other than the truth makes me feel deceitful and not authentic.

Second, if the person asking me is overweight, I feel if I told them diet and exercise that gives them false hope of success, they will probably want to know my plan and I would have to lie if I didn't disclose the surgery.

I welcome the opportunity to educate everyone now.  Especially those who believe I couldn't have possibly needed the surgery.  Hello!  I had a BMI of 39, weighed 221, and was obese with no diet success despite trying everything.  Once I explain everything, you can see the lightbulb go off over their heads.

Last, if I can help someone else who is obese find their way back to good health after they have tried everything, I would feel wonderful for having been able to pay it forward.

Life's to short and being close to 50, I want to enjoy what's left for me to the very fullest!

I'm pretty open about it.  Those that did not know before surgery that ask how I lost weight, I tell them.  I would like them to see the positive side of WLS.  I feel there is too much misinformation about it out there.  I also want others who are considering it to feel free to ask about it.  I always approach it from the health side.  I am diabetic and my PCP wanted me to start taking insulin.  That was my wake up call that I needed to do something.  The responses I have gotten have been very positive.

I tell.
When I tell someone I lost 180 pounds they want to know  HOW. Like there is some big secret way to lose that much weight. I tell them WLS is really the best way to lose that much weight.
I like to dispel myths and be a picture of success in the world.
