I tell.  I live in a small town (less than 1500) and everyone knows anyway.  I am also a teacher and I didn't want my students to think I was sick and dying.  :)

I also feel that if I can talk to just one student (person) that this might help....I am going to talk about it.  My students have been some of my biggest supporters.  I love going to school in new, smaller clothes and a teenage girl says..."Cute outfit, Mrs. M"  or one of the football boys pulled me into his little group and said  "Dang, Mrs. M....you are looking good !!"  Being 59 years young (and being over three-hundred pounds for 35 years)....I need all the encouragement I can get !!!!!  So, yes, I tell !
Slow and steady !!!!  Have a Blessed Day !!!!!!

Yeah - it's too hard to keep it a secret. I won't just blurt it out, but if there's a question, then of course.

Most people are supportive, some are not just for the fact that I lose a lot of weight on my own waiting for surgery and some don't think I "needed' this surgery. But I don't have to justify myself to anyone and it's been liberating to just look at someone and tell them I don't have to explain myself and watch their face :)

I do tell people for a variety of reason.  I am proud of my decision to have the surgery and the hard work it is taking to lose the weight.  Also, I live in a VERY small time....so....the weight loss could only mean one of two things, cancer or I am having an affair.  So neither of those things are true, and I am proud of what my choices have been.

Lots of 5K's, 10K's., 4 1/2 Marathons, 3 Sprint Triathlon done. 2 Olympics and my  First IRONMAN 70.3 September 2013 and First Full Marathon Dec 2013  !!!!!

When someone comments on my weight loss and asked what I'm doing, I tell them I had WLS. If they don't ask, I don't offer it up. I have no problem telling people I've had WLS and rarely get negative comments when I do tell.

I think I would be a bit more hesitant in a professional setting though. I am a stay at home mom so I don't have that part to worry about but if I did, I think I would probably not disclose that I had surgery unless directly asked. I don't think a discussion of my health belongs in the workplace. It seems unprofessional.

I tell. And I think telling or not needs to be a matter of personal choice, and sometimes depends on the cir****tances.

I'm proud of my courage in accessing an effective tool in dealing with the disease of obesity.

Think I'm in a minority.  My husband knows, my son and two friends.  The second friend I told only because I needed a lift to the hospital for one of my tests when hubby couldn't do it.  She was very supportive.

I just don't feel like it's anybody else's business.  That's just me.  It's like telling people how much money you earn.  It's personal.  I may change my mind later, but right now, even the in-laws don't know.  I don't see them for a few months so I intend not to tell them if I can avoid it.

Guess it just depends on your comfort level.  This is just a personal choice for me that is more comfortable.

I'm a teacher too, and I switched schools after surgery, so I got a lot of "WHOA WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU" and I tell EVERYONE.

Anyone that asks or if it comes up in conversation, because like the others said. I'm am so proud that I made a positive decision to get my health and life back.

I tell anyone that asks.  I'm not ashamed either, I'm proud of my success.  And I hope I can be an example of someone that had good success with WLS and show people that surgery is a valid option for those that need to lose large amounts of weight.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I tell if I'm asked now (I was more private about it right off the bat, simply because I didn't want people watching me under a microscope), but if not I don't just blurt it out. Just like I don't walk around saying "Hi, my name is Morgan. I've lost 157lbs. How are you?" If someone directly asks me how I've lost weight, I'll tell them. I'm not secretive. I'm just not a billboard.

Honestly, I like meeting people that didn't know me before. Its nice to just be treat 'normal' like the size 8 me has always been around.
