Pain... talk to me about gallbladders please

So I am having this pain on the right side of my abdomin. It came on all of a sudden late yesterday. After I was at the surgeons for my 6 month. Hubby thinks it maybe just weird gas pains as I get those. BUt I was wondering what do pains caused by a bad gallbladder feel like? I can function ok but once in awhile I get a stabbing pain in that area and not sure if I am worring myself over nothing really.

I called and left the docs office a message and am waiting. I know they will want me to come in and will admit me which I really dont want if it is not a big deal.

They probably will not admit you unless the pain is really severe or you have additional symptoms that indicate you need immediate treatment.  Probably they will order an ultrasound to check for stones in your gall bladder, and if you have stones, they will schedule surgery a few days later.  Often it is done as an out patient surgery.

Usually gall bladder pain in on the upper right side of the abdomen and sometimes radiatates around toward the back.  It may get worse after eating, especially eating something with a lot of fat.  You  might also be nauseous.

I agree with poet_kelly that a ultrasound will be done. I already had mine removed years ago. Mayo was my culprit and set it off. certain foods will bother you ( again before surgery). The pain is on the right under the rib cage.
Good luck

At my surgeons if you have already had the surgery and have abdominal pain they admit you no if ands or buts. So that they can watch you over night and run tests.

The pain is still there. The pain hasnt really moved at all so I have no idea what it is. I know that when I was in the hospital not to long ago that they said I had 4 small stones in my kidney on the right side so maybe that is it. Who knows. I am still waiting to hear back as today is a surgery day for my doc.

Other things to keep an eye on in case it is your gallbladder is if the pain moves to your shoulders, or it seems to travel down towards your abdomen (this happens when stones are coming out of the gallbladder)

If is just gas pain, maybe laying on your left side for a bit might helo, or walking around. But if the pain keeps coming back and it seems sharp and is always around the same area then I would definitely ask your surgeon to order an ultrasound.

Hello Cheryl....
I'm actully sitting in the recovery room. Just had my gallbladder out at 9 this morning. My first "attack" was over a month ago. The pain usually comes n goes. You will also notice you become more gassy from both ends. Also your bowl movements will change in color - they will usually be a pale color. I did get nausea and pain even after I would drink fluids.
The first step your doc should do is order an Ultrasound, if that comes back w sludge n stones that's all they will do and then they will get ya set up for it to come out.

Good luck to you. And so far - it's not too bad.

When I had gallbladder attacks, I discovered really hot baths made the pain subside.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon

An ultrasound is needed for diagnosis...could be gas, but it could be your ovary, gallbladder, appendix & a multitude of other things we can't diagnose over the computer. I hope you're feeling better soon!!

I just took an ambulance ride to the hospital, had pain meds, an ultrasound and they sent me home to see my doctor the next day. The next day the surgeon called and scheduled my surgery. I had the worst abdominal pain ever, I felt like I could not breathe, it hurt to push on the area just below my ribs on the right side.
