goat milk, anyone?
I don't get it. It would be much easier for me to find a place to buy drugs. But no, they can't crack down on that. I mean, heroin is one thing, but milk? Keeping milk off the street has to be the priority!

Maybe that is why my brother gives it away. Its never in large quanity, mostly to friends that visit or neighbors. It is a shame that when it comes to food sharing the federal goverment is so strict. My neighbors have been laid off from their jobs for a year, the church near my house has several people that own big farms, and they share their eggs, milk, etc., with people that are struggling to put food on their table. They do not accept money for any of it. I think it is just good people sharing with people in need. I grow a huge garden every year and share the produce with family, friends and people that I know that have lost their jobs and struggling to feed their families.
If anyone is fascinated with nutrition and food-related politics and, I don't know, all that weird stuff that fascinates me, do some reading about raw milk.
I don't think the government is putting so much effort and time and money into shutting down small farmers because they are worried about our health. Yes, raw milk can make you sick. I find it hard to believe that the government is very concerned about that, though, since they allow and even encourage the sale of milk from cows given antibiotics and hormones that can cause all kinds of health problems. They also allow the sale of milk from cows kept in really unsanitary conditions. So it doesn't look to me like they are really worried about our health.
I think they are getting lots of money from lobbyists for the dairy industry. The dairy industry, of course, does not want people buying and selling raw milk because that is money they are losing. They want their milk to be our only choice.
Anyway, the government allows the sale of all kinds of things that we know can make people sick. Cigarettes are legal. I feel certain they kill more people than raw milk kills. Alcohol is legal. I am sure more people die from liver disease than die from drinking raw milk. So even if raw milk is dangerous, shouldn't it be our choice if we want to drink it or not, just like it's our choice if we want to smoke or drink alcohol?
It's a scary thing when the goverment starts working hard to prevent people from getting food that they believe is healthy. It's no different, to me, than when the FDA starts talking about making a lot of vitamin supplements illegal. It's food. If you don't want to drink raw milk, then by all means don't drink it. But why would you care if I want to drink it?
Fascinating reading...but you might not wanna read it right before bedtime. Gets me too worked up to go to sleep.
