If it's the carbonation you like, what about drinking carbonated water instead of soda?  You can add lemon or lime or whatever for flavor.

Carbs like bread don't really keep you full longer.  Protein will keep you full longer.  I love carbs too, and I have come to the conclusion that there are some things I just cannot keep in the house because I can't quit eating them.  Like crackers.  I love crackers.  I have not bought them for months, though.  I just can't eat them in moderation.

I know that they will not keep me full longer. That's what I told myself to justify eating them! :( I need to have my nemesis (i.e. bread) in the house for my kids. I do buy wheat bread for them. I just need to be strong and not eat it. My vow today is to NOT eat a lot of carbs! No more rice, bread and pasta!! I need to do this for myself so that I can get to my healthy weight!

Yeah, it is harder to keep some stuff out of the house when you have kids.

My husband really likes to drink sparkling water or club soda. (this is not the flavored water.)   They have a little bit of flavor even though they don't have artificial sweetner added.  His favorite is Ozarka brand.  Sometimes he drinks it plain and sometimes he buys the kind with a little added flavor like lemon or lime.  He has also gotten creative and added the sugar free flavored coffee syrups to them.  He made one the other day that tasted like a cherry lime aide.    There are a lot of different brands out there.

Before surgery, I could not imagine that I could give up diet sodas - as I loved sparkly drinks....but I did. I have also given up refined carbs (everything white, rice, bread and pasta)b/c I really have a problem with them. I just know myself and that will be my "gateway drug"..... So, I simply stay away b/c I know me. My suggestions: Crystal Light (Flavors: Green tea with Raspberry, Peach tea or my new obsession - Fruit Punch are great) and I suggesting to completly stay away from the refined carbs. Utilize OA, OH and your surgeon's support programs. Support is key when you are struggling. Sorry that you have to deal with this but I am glad that you are recognizing the problem early. You are doing sooooooooooo good on your weight loss journey. Keep it up - you can do this....

I used to live on soda. I haven't had one since the night before my surgery on Aug 23. The Dr told me about G2. I was never a friend of gatorade but the G2 is low in sugar and calories and comes in some nice flavors plus it replace electrolytes in the body. I have grown to love it.

I'm just curious...when did the bad choices start post-op...how soon after surgery?  Exactly what kinds of carbs are you eating?  How are you managing to get your protein in on top of the carbs?

I started eatign carbs about a month ago...I am eating bread, pasta, rice. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. I eat my 3ozs of protein with my rice or pasta. Like my hubby will cook pork, rice a roni and carrots and I will eat the pork then rice and then my veggies.

i can't drink water either unless i am really hot and its all i have to drink.  But i stopped the day i started my preop diet drinking my sprite.  I had stopped mostly a few years ago and i was a coca cola 6 pack a day kind of person.  I quit that cold turkey also.. Just have to do it.  I was just reading an article in a after WLS cook book that drinking soda everyday will contribute you to gaining 15 lbs a year.
So i didn't like water or diet stuff but started drinking aquafina raspberry and mixed berry flavorsplashes.  They are not overly sweet and are flavored with sucralose.  I also do the chrystal lights and target brands are actually better than the chrystal lights to me.  lol  i also like some of the propel zeros..specifically peach and mixed berry.

A friend of mine has sensitivities to artificial sweeteners.  she adds lemons and Stevia ( i think that is how it is spelled) to her water and she said it tastes good and doesnt get the aspertame headaches.
