Feeling really bad!

I am making A LOT of bad food choices and drinking SODA!! Ugh, I am kicking myself in my ass telling myself that I have to smarten up! But for some reason I keep going back to the carbs and soda! I do eat my protein first and I don't drink and eat at the same time. I do exercise (3x a week at the gym plus trying to get into jogging). I am throwing myself a pity party here lol! I am part of OA and I do have a councelor (sp). I am not in any mood when I eat the carbs/soda I just like them. SO What I would like to know from you, my friends on OH, is how can I stop eating the carbs and soda? I have offically cut the soda out (as of today). So what can I replace the soda with? I cannot do anything with aspertame (sp) because it gives me really bad headaches! I need something with flavor because I cannot drink water all the time! Thank you in advance for you help and advice!

Good on you for recognizing this before it becomes a problem for you; it's so hard to do that!

I hate plain water too, so I make unsweetened TAZO passion fruit iced tea, and it's so good!  Any herbal iced tea is really tasty and doesn't dehydrate you either.

I drink about 8 cups of that a day (a pitcher a day more or less).

Hope that helps and hang in there :)

TAZO? Where do you buy that? I live in the Sticks and we don't have much here! Can I get it online? What herbal teas are good? I don't know much about them either! lol

Target actually sells it!  The Celestial Seasonings Blueberry is good too - I actually like both flavors mixed!  Most food stores and Target sell the Celestial Seasonings.  Both kinds have iced tea instructions on the box; I have been buying the big tea "sachet" at homegoods and marshall's for the passion fruit so I can make a pitcher at a time!

Just try a couple and see what you like!  There is another brand called The Republic of Tea (my local King's and Whole Foods sell them) and they have a lot of really good flavors too!

These are great starter teas, I love Teavana but it's so pricey :)

If you go to OA then I am sure you are aware that refined carbs are addictive to some people and that eating them will cause you to crave more, like anything else you may be addicted to.  The only way I know how to not eat them is to not eat them at all.  Every time I have thought that I could eat them in moderation I have failed.  That is the reason I failed so miserably with my first WLS.  I could not stop eating them.
If you have an addiction to refined carbs, and not everyone who needs WLS does, then you will have to detox from the carbs.  That means none at all, no matter how much they call to you.  Drink lot's of water and hang in there.  Once they are out of your system they won't have the same pull on you.
As far as fluids I drink Crystal Light, very diluted.  I don't like heavy sweetness.  It is sweetened with Splenda so hopefully you don't have a problem with that.
Good luck to you and take it one day at a time.

Hello, I buy water flavoring from " Capella Flavors Inc.". They have several great flavors and it makes water more enjoyable. The link is :

In addition, I have purchased flavoring from "Yum Drops". Their flavoring is sweetened with Stevia. The link is:

Capella actually has a bacon flavored drop for water, which in my opinion turns my stomach to think about it! (lol) I can relate to giving up the soda. I quite smoking 3 years ago cold turkey and never looked back. However, when I tried to give up soda, I literally had withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, etc. Giving up soda was the hardest thing I ever did, even above smoking cessation.

Best wishes!

You just need to make up your mind that you're going to do it and stick with it. You have to believe you are worth it. And you are!! You can do it!!

Most WLS people I know in real life who drink soda never got to goal weight or gained a bunch back. I like soda, but I like being thin, so I'm not going there. Haven't had one in 3 years.

What else do you like to drink?  Iced tea, hot tea, herbal tea (hot or iced), coffee (hot or iced), sugar free hot chocolate, ice water with lemon or lime, sugar free drinks like Crystal Light (I don't know what kind of sweetener is in what brand), protein drinks...

What is the reason you keep eating the carbs and soda?  Is it really only because you like them?  What do you like about them so much that you're willing to keep returning to them even when you know that might prevent you from reaching your goal?  What other things do you really like that would be more in line with your goal?

I like to drink almsot everything, except coffee and most protein drinks! I go back to the soda because I like carbonation. I go to the carbs because I think that they keep me "full longer". I have discussed this with my OA group and councelor. I believe that I wil be able to cut most of the carbs out and just keep to the "good" carbs. I enjoy my fruit and milk too much to give them up! I have always been a bread eater and I have been eating ALOT of bread post op. I wasn't aware I was eating so much bread until I started writing down everything that I ate!!!
