grocery shopping makes me grumpy

I was at the store at 10:00 this morning.  You'd think they'd have all the shelves stocked for the day, right?  Wrong.  I hate it when I go shopping and they are out of stuff I need.

Here is what was on my list that I did not get because they did not have any:

- Morningstar Farms fake chicken stuff (now I have to think of something else to make for dinner tonight)
-  Maxwell House International French vanilla cafe, sugar free
- sugar free caramel syrup (they actually had NO sugar free syrup whatsoever.  Now WTH am I supposed to make protein shakes out of?)
- cilantro (they had every other herb you could possibly want, organic no less)

And yet, somehow I still managed to spend $100.

And it makes me even madder when someone that works there notices you are looking for something, asks if they can help you...........AND THEN THEY FIND WHAT YOU NEED IN THE BACK!!!  If you have it in the "back"..........put it on the shelf!!

Ahhh....I feel better now.

Have a great weekend.

You know, I literally just finished unpacking my bags from the market and sat down to the computer. I'm feeling the same way but for different reasons. I'm still getting used to eating less and sometimes, like today, I miss the excitement of buying lots of food and eating it all up. ( I know I'm not thinking about the misery that follows). But today, even the things I liked sort of bugged me when I put them in my cart. The thrill is gone as they say... I need to put my energy into other non-food things and remember food is only fuel.

When you get further out food will probably be more fun again.

I love finding new recipes now and figuring out ways to make them healthier.  I think it's good to remember that we need food for fuel, but I really don't think that food is only fuel, at least not for me.  If that was the case, I could eat the same thing every day, and make it something that took little time to prepare.  But the cake I am baking today is not just for fuel.  It's my very favorite cake and my partner loves it too and we have not had it since my surgery so this is a special treat.  And it's sugar free so I can enjoy it.

I can't make every meal about giving myself a special treat, obviously, but the food I prepare and eat can be about more than just fuel.

I agree with you actually. I guess I'm in the mode where the pendulum has swung from one extreme to the other. I'm looking forward to finding some balance as I progress. I appreciate hearing that it gets better- on all fronts. Thanks. :)
